Does alcohol and drugs really age your body and make you look old before your time or is this a myth?
Most people should know that a question like that is never as simple as "yes" or "no"... if you abuse drugs and/or alcohol for an extended period of time, then yes, chances are you will look and feel more aged...however, many other things can play into that: sun exposure, whether you excercise and eat healthy, if you smoke cigarettes... the list is huge. I know guys that have been heavy drinkers for less than 7 or 8 years and they look like shit! i also know a guy who has been sunbathing nearly daily for years and he looks like shit! Some drugs are worse than others... if you do a lot of chemical drugs chances are you will get very physically messed up. Any abuse of pretty much anything will mess you up physically. Just look at someone that has smoked a pack a day for 20 yrs. People love making it sound so simple in order to vilify the effects of drug and alcohol use... to USE certain drugs occasionally is not the same as being a 'drug abuser' or an 'addict'... u should be smart enough to know if your choices to use a substance take your health to a bad level. Just remember though that most alcoholics and drug abusers don't eat properly, don't exercise properly and don't have a healthy lifestyle. So in my opinion, to answer your question... yes, it is a myth... and no, it's not. (There are seldom any questions that are black and white)
Well, your body isn't designed to accept alcohol. The small amount that your body makes naturally is taken care of by the liver, but by drinking alcohol we add more that puts your liver to work. Of course your body manages to handle it just like all the other crap we put our bodies through, but damage is still done each time you drink alcohol which leads to an aged look. (but the same goes for breathing in polluted air, drinking treated water etc, being in the sun - as earthfluff said - so yeah.. lotsa things can muck ya up).
