Every summer I have to read Dandelion Wine. I think it is the essense of childhood in summer. Bradbury, although his dialogue can be a bit odd at times, can capture the idea of childhood like few authors. This book is funny, and weird, and scary, and heartwarming (without being mushy) and just plain fun. Doug Spaulding is the protaganist, a 12 year old boy, growing up in the late 1920s, in a suburb of Chicago. He has a 10 year old brother, and a mom and dad, and lives next door to his grandparents, with his wise, funny grandfather and his amazing cooking grandmother. The other inhabitants of the town of GreenTown are funny and odd, there is even a serial killer. Let Doug show you his best summer in this book. Does anyone else love Ray Bradbury?
Dandelion Wine is one of my favourite books, and I feel the same way I'm glad to see that someone else has the same neurotic tendancy to read the book, it's so classic.
I also have a lot of Bradbury's other books, along with a lot of short story collections. He uses Doug Spaulding as a character, from childhood, into adulthood all the time. I just love him. Fell asleep last night reading Bradbury.
Definatly agree with all of you... i like the Illistrated Man, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Ferinhit(sp)451, From the Dust Returned, and pretty much every thing else he has done.....
