All I know is that, while they were still living in Poland, my grandmother was taught to read playing cards by Romani woman, and her daughter, my aunt, was told that she has "Sight" because of how her eyebrows grew... Lol, looked like a plain ole' unibrow to me, but... My aunt does have some amazing abilty though, and her son (my cousin) and I both have similar if not as impressive powers of Knowing....

Nomadic thieves and charlatans for the most part, but then again, you gotta turn into that if people throw you out when you try and settle and don't trust you or hire you.

yeah, i just came back from Romania, my family is there. Its funny how people have this glamorous idea of gypsies. it is a very derogatory term, as people refer to gypsies as the homeless class.

the phrase "to gyp someone of something" came from the idea that gypsies were like used car salesmen or something....i think it's cool, how they learned how to use their wit and charm in order to survive through such prejudice...if that's the case...but anyway.."We borrow the earth" is a great book and i think anyone interested in romani lore should find it and read it. <;D
