I was there yesterday with a friend. We had a good time. We tried to do an awful lot in the 9 hours or so we were there. Unfortunately I missed the Galloway speech (bummer!). The one let-down was that I didn't meet any other Hipforumers. I did try to contact some of you guys (Bolton Beatnik, Claire and Dharmadillo) but either your phones were switched off, or you had left your phones behind.
Hey guys i was there friday / saturday at the nidre camp with my mates. It wa like a big fort double tall fences with towers filled of security guards and such like, crazy ^_^. On the main march i spent bloody 2.5 hours queueing to march, i got such a sunburn that the actual march was no fun , at least i got to march with some friends from the sheffield samba band. Hope you guys had fun.
Wow that was amazing! Great turnout and nice atmosphere. Well worth the 9 hour coach journey up there. Fingers crossed that it makes a difference!
Once again, police use their power to prevent/break down protesters. As an Italian, the G8 means the memory of Carlo Giuliani's death. He was just 23 and have been killed by a Policeman in Genoa. We can raise our voice, we can shout louder then ever. Still, the police will always look at us as troublemakers, whatever we do, we have to pay the price never them. It is a sad world. Carlo, I miss you! If you want to see (sad) pictures of Carlo's killing go to http://www.nadir.org/nadir/initiativ/agp/free/genova/pics3a.htm
whilst the police were well over the top, many of the people getting involved were just local neds, who dont have a clue abvout the G8. I personaly knew some of the people i saw throwing crates on the news, and they are out to provoce anyone.
An interesting article: G8 debt deal "Campaigners complain that donor countries are using the debt relief package to force privatisation and a liberal economic agenda." "To gain Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) status - to qualify for aid and debt relief - the country had to privatise its urban water supply." etc. ~
hi there the socialist party arrived saturday last week we had a great intervention in the march amongst those who believe this poverty can be solved under capitalism...not so.. good day we sold many papers had some great speakers at our meetings and the rest of the members enjoyed the week after..our photographer got hit a few times by police a member was attacked by labour supportes but we all see this as fear of change...fear of the system changing for the better.. i returned for activity here in cambs uk... so good work to all who protested..... lovenpeace from saff
Im interested in what people thought about the july 2nd march in hindsight. peronally, i hated it and thought the atmosphere was terrible.
