I am going to be obnoxiously Canadian.

I will wear my Canada shirt, my Canada pants, my Canada hat and my Canada jacket. I will buy some Molson from the grocery store, and pour Clamato into it. I am going to rollarblade around the parking lot, and play street hockey all by myself. I will sing the National Anthem in English, and then in French just for fun. I will talk loudly about how the moose have migrated too far south because of the rapidly increasing wolf population. I will tell people I am from Saskatchewan, and then point and laugh when they look at me like I sneezed. I will also say "'eh" a lot, not just when I normally do.

All of this, I will do with a straight face... because only my husband will know that Canadians aren't actually like this "everyday".

Ummm, probably nothing. On saturday I will be working, because you know, people just have to go to the mall on a long weekend.

We'll probably go to the park where there are bands, vendors, artsits, etc set up. In the evening there are a few bigger music acts, then some fire dancing and a drum circle, and for the grand finale....fireworks. Oh, and we'll all be wearing our maple leaf bandannas, and get flags painted on our faces. ;) My daughter loves Canada Day.

Hmm, maybe I should actually take a look at what my city is doing this weekend. They usually have some pretty interesting festivals during the summer.

I should stop being a bum, and actually get out once in a while. ;)

Right on brother, that sounds like a great idea. Watch some fireworks later, play some guitar around a fire!

i went to my fave island to watch fireworks and camp :D

i did however feel kind of funny celebrating "canada day". sometimes i wonder what first nations people think about celebrations like that. they've been living here forever, had their land stolen from them and then we're all celebrating? just seems wrong on some level.

Except that's not really correct. No one living today had their land stolen from them.. and we didn't steal it... and they've been here just as long as us. I don't believe in this "us" and "them" when it has nothing to do with us or them.. it has to do with our race and their race and by saying that we are the race that came here in the past is the highest, deepest, and most subtle form of racism.
