I just wanted to share with any of you who are or have had to deal with an incredibly ill child that miracles do happen. Our daughter, Mia was born a few weeks early and within 48 hours was sent by flight for life to Childrens Hospital in Denver and quickly became the sickest baby in the hospital. The doctors called in our family to tell us she may not make it. My husband and I prepared for the worst and finally allowed our 1 1/2 yr old daughter to meet her little sister. This was day 6 into our journey and we thought at least her sister deserved to meet the little reason she couldn't jump on mommy's belly for so long. Our daughter, Penny kissed her gently on the head and said, "love - baby" This tiny infant...sedated and breathing only with the help of a ventilator moved her foot. Within 2 days Mia was breathing on her own and beginning to eat. She came home from the hospital a week later and is now sharing a room with her sister Penny. When all hope is lost...keep faith and remember that angels come in all forms. I will post pictures soon
That is such a great story, and just proves another time, how babies need love, and need to be touched even when born early. They need it more then anything. My brother was born early, and my mother told me how she was not allowed to touch him, until he was ready to come out of the box. That was 22 years ago. Today (I just saw a report on tv) Parents have to come in, and "kangaroo" the early babies. They lie on either father's or mothers tummy, and are covered with special sheets, so that they stay warm. They said it has been scientifically prooved, that babies that are touched more by their loved ones, are less risky to have physical and/ or mentel problems. I am so happy for you, that everything worked out
Oh that is so wonderful!!! My cousins just had their baby 6 weeks early by emergency C-section. Mom was going to have her next Doc appointment in 2 days, but she just didn't feel right, so she went to the emergency room and they rushed her in to operate. Mom had an extremely rare blood disorder that would've killed baby if she had stayed in-utero for a few more days. Little Paige was also rushed to the hospital, but was at University Hospital in Denver. That hospital is an awesome one. She was out three weeks before they had anticipated. It's amazing how strong these little humans can be. Thanks so much for sharing your story and photos! They're darling! I noticed you're in Colordao...so are we! Where are you guys? We're in Denver. It is trruly amazing what can be done for these tiny little souls. The Doctors and nurses that cared for our baby are 1 in a million. They worked around the clock to save her life, never settling and calling in all resources for support and suggestions to treat her. I never said what her illness was based on...I will try to explain in in laymans terms as much a possible. She was born at 36 weeks (40 is full term) Her lungs were not allowing oxygen in, and her blood vessels in her lungs were not opening to allow blood to flow in and be oxygenated. Term is pulmonary hypertension. Due to the pressure in her lungs from the high settings on the ventilator, a hole punctured her right lung causing a chest tube to be placed. Her heart began to give out from the extra work to get blood into her lungs. She was placed on several medications to treat this and also recieved a blood transfusion to replace blood lost from all the lab work. Baby sister came in and kissed her...within 2 days her little body faught back and recovered...she made an abnormally fast recovery and has not had an illness since. Today she is 2 months old. Never give up...the power of touch is amazing. Talk to these babies, they know your voice. Do everything the doctors will let you do, even if it is just taking their temperature. I am still amazed!
Wanted to give you all an update on our littlest angel. She is 3 1/2 months now and has been the BEST baby ever. She has been healthy and is growing soooooo fast. We are so fortunate!
*sniffs* That's absolutely beautiful, so heart warming. Congratulations on your precious little miracle! {{{HUGE HUGS}}}
