i'm up WAY too early for a job interview, and i just finished off my friend's skirt. it's the first of 8 or 9 i'm making as a 'friend appreciation.' well, for some friends i'm just going to make pillows or bags, because they won't sport the skirt look well...so here it is.

first one is of the front of the skirt, second is the back. it ties on the side and has some beads on the strings. there are matching smaller patches down both the sides.

the thing is, though, my friend is definitely not that tall! i think i'll have to take it down about four inches!

    that is nice!

that sucks about you having to lop off so much! do you have a taller friend you could give that one to? I hate having to alter things after I finish them! Usually when i finish a project I am so DONE with it, ya know?

I do like the skirt though..love the colors

nope. all my friends are little! that's okay. and this isn't an exchange between all of us (although that WOULD be nice) it's just me lettin my girls know that i love em enough to spend absurd amounts of time working on handmade clothes for them!
i think it's a great thing to do for your friends as a surprise; surprises are the best!

oh, and that second picture is actually the front.

    looks great!

Got a question abot the drawstrings though! Did you sew them inside and then invert them, or what? I've wanted to make some bigger strings that size, but it takes SOOOO long to invert them, and I end up ripping them sometimes.

    Thanks!

i'm not exactly sure what you mean by inverting them, scout, if you mean the making of the strings or the turning them into drawstring process. at any rate, the string was thick enough to sew inside out and then turn it right side in once completed. it wasn't difficult. then i just strung it through the space in the waistline, using a huge safety pin at the tip.
yeah, i am pretty done with the skirt. the more i look at it the more i think about what i might have done differently...but the rush is that she hasn't seen it yet. i love the element of surprise. another skirt i'm working on, well, my friend's needed to see it due to sizing, and now it's much less exciting to make. therefore, it's taking me WAY longer!

okay, that's what I meant, you sewed it inside-out.... I must not be making them quite wide enough, cuz it's a PAIN to turn the ones I was doing inside-out.

i dont even mess with making them that way anymore..i turn all the raw edges in and sew on top...it works better for me for the straps and loops of tops and drawstrings of skirts...making them the other way always took me too much time..
    sorry for butting in ...lol
