Alright, I never use tampons, I've always been afraid to. the other day I used one (with an applicator) and it actually went ok. a couple questions though:

how far in should it really be? i think i put it as far as it can go but the end of the tampon was slightly visible(not sticking out).. is that wrong?

Also, I rarely have heavy days, so even if i got like, the least absorbency, would it still hurt to take it out?(it hurts becuase its dry, because I dont lose alot of blood)
And when I sat down, I could feel it, not inside, but out, and it hurt some times...
Am I right to say it wasn't in far enough and I wasnt having a heavy enough period?
    thnx

Only the threads should be visible so it sounds like you haven't got it in far enough. You really shouldn't be able to feel them once they are in properly. As for pain when removing, I can't remember it ever hurting but I didn't start using tampons till my first gf showed me how comfortable and easy to use they were a couple of years ago.

I think that if your flow is light you should stick to the light absorbancies. I read something (in cosmo i think) that using a heavy flow tampon when you're on a light day is bad for you.

As for not having in far enough there are instructions in every box that tells you how to insert it. Basically when using an applicator hold it toward the middle and insert it until your fingers touch your vagina then push the bottom part up to release the tampon.
But again read the instructions that come in the box. Good luck

You should use slender...maybe playtex. I use OB...no applicator. It may take a few times to get used to tampons, but once you do, you'll never go back to pads! You really can't feel them when they are inserted properly. Once it is in, gently tug the string. If you feel resistance, it should be in proper. If it moves too easily with a GENTLE pull, it's obviously not in far enough!

You may also want to try a different position when inserting...sitting versus standing with your foot on the edge of the tub.

When I first started (many moons ago) I tried sitting on the pot and had trouble..now I stand.
Also try the slim ones or the "pearl",they are a little slicker.....keep trying....these women are right, once you get the hang of it, you'll never go back.
    SO MUCH cleaner and fresher...

I use Playtex....the kind with deodorant. It will probably give me cancer and die, but it's nice to reach down there when you're all bloated and bitchy and gross and then smell flowers...hehe... :D

I had the same feeling the first time I used a tampon, and yep its because you didnt insert it properly. The WHOLE of the tampon apart from the cord at the bottom needs to be far up inside your vagina (basically as far up as you can get without pain) and you should always use to the lowest absorbency possible in relation to your period flow. This lessens the risk of TSS and also will make them easier to remove. Remember to RELAX as much as possible whn inserting the tampon otherwise your vaginal muscles may tighten up in stress making it hard to get the little sucker in there!!
    Good luck! :)

yeah, you should use the one that is right for your flow because otherwise you have to worrry about the whole TSS thing.

    I love Tampons! hehe

A girl I know was in highschool and had never used a tampon. Well, she got her period and all her friends had were tampons. So she goes in the bathroom, and does her thing. All day long she was in pain and telling her friends the were crazy for wearing them.... Later we found out, she never took off the applicator. She was walking around with the whole thing up in there as far as it would go.

    OUCH!!!!!!!!

I just started wearing them comfortably, and it took me a few tries to get them in right. I know you have to arch the tampon towards your lower back, and that only the string should be seen.

It took me awhile to get over the fear of them, but now that I am, they're so much more comfortable and clean feeling.

I have actually used "platex" tampons before & when I pulled it out it felt like I was ripping my insides out!! Before that I used "tampax". I probably bought the "playtex" cuz they were on sale or something, but ever since then I have only used "tampax" And of course you can buy many different sizes from super-plus to junior-lites. The different sizes of course have to do with how heavy your flow is. It sounds like you need lites or regulars!!

Once it is inserted you should only see the string. If the applicator didn't get it in all the way you can always use your finger to push it in a little further. If they continue being uncomfortable with the right size & right brand maybe you just shouldn't use tampons!! Although they are by far the best between them & pads!!

it sometimes hurts when i take them out, its because its too dry (ive been on the pill since i began menstruating- i was really young at the time and my doc made me go on the pill to regulate.. so now my periods all weird because after 9 years im suddenly menstruating naturally.) my flow is REALLY heavy the first day (sometimes two days) then really really really light for a few days.... and those days it can hurt a bit. i dont want to leave the tampon in too long, theres that toxic shock thing.. i dont want to die from tampon usage. haha. But if when its removed and not totally wet, its a bitch. yeah.

its 'normal' i guess.. i mean to be blunt- youre pulling a coarse peace of cotton out. its going to hurt. no ifs ands or buts (unless its saturated, then it wont) if its really a problem ask your gyno to suggest a tampon or something, but use the slims or teen fits and use the lightest ones that they have. if theyre smaller theyll saturate easier. and the smaller ones should go in all the way, too.

go with playtex theyre awsome. the same thing happened to me the first time using them, but the second time(meaning the second period you use them for) its really easy. maybe you need to leave them in longer so theyre not dry when you take them out. i hate it when that happens and it hurts like a mother.
