    Video Clip

Tom Cruise defends scientology and goes off on psychatric drugs. If you want to just view the Scientology part just move the little moving thing to the middle.

There is other evidence that dianetics is not a science. For example, his theory of mind shares little in common with modern neurophysiology and what is known about the brain and how it works. According to Hubbard, the mind has three parts....

Has anyone done any reading or research into Scientology? I wonder if L.Ron Hubbard ever debated any psychiatric people about their practices?

I watched that video. What is wrong with him? Has he always been so...strange? I couldn't believe how rude he was towards Matt Lauer. I wouldn't knock his beliefs, but I also wouldn't take him seriously. Not since he can't tolerate anyone questioning his beliefs.

He seemed irrational to me. It wouldn't attract me to his cause. When someone acts that way, especially out of anger...it ruins their argument,it makes them seem less credible. I could agree with some of his thoughts(not all of them)...but it was hard to see them through his weird actions.

does anyone know anything really about scientology?? i looked it up online to try and see what the fuss was all about but i can't really make out the main points to it...i can't look at this situation without being bias...i'm a psych major and i'm currently taking anti-depressants!!!...he is entitled to his beliefs and i do believe that some medication is definately over-prescribed...kids at my college can get adderall perscribed to them in the snap of their fingers...and its usually used for a party drug..however..some kids and adults do need medication..and i dont understand what his problem with brooke shields is...she is taking anti-depressants because she has post-partum depression...hello..does he want her to end up like that yates lady who didnt get help and ended up drowning her 5 kids in the bath tub..i dont know..maybe i need a lesson in scientology..but until then i think tom needs to calm himself down...until he gets his phd in psychiatry and psychology i don't think he has any right to be saying what he does about how medicine is bad for ALL people....thats just my opinion though.. and until someone can explain to me what his real deal is..im boycotting his new movie..and hoping a lot of other people do too..im not giving any money to a guy who would totally sh*t on me because i take anti-depressants..i need em..so whatever tom...

Scientology, yeah, it's a pyramid/Ponzi scheme. I've heard L. Ron Hubbard basically made a bet that he could start a religion and make millions off of it.
I know a guy who was a scientologist and he signed a contract with the cult for, get this, one billion years! I heard that and rolled laughing. It still cracks me up months later.
Tom isn't the sharpest tack in the box anyway. I mean, he's played basically the same character, Tom Cruise, in every damn movie.

Though I can't say I disagree if he's criticizing psychiatric-drug use. I don't really believe we should be so reliant on them.

[edit]: oh and researching this religion is a monumental waste of time if you do value your time at all and have a firm grasp on sanity and reality.

hey thanks for the advice..i couldn't make sense of the stuff anyway...but yeah..i understand where he is coming from with the overuse of medication..in some cases people just resort to it because they are having some hard times but in some cases it is necessary...well i still dont think people should listen to him...some kids who may need to take medication might see him and believe what he is saying and stop taking it..though its their choice i dont think tom cruise is the right model to follow by!...

I've read a few Scientology books. It's kinda sci-fi sounding as far as the terms they use. It's about getting rid of your "re-active mind". The way they describe the re-active mind sounds similar to the subconcious mind basically. Anyway, they believe in using procedures called "auditing" to get rid of this re-active mind. They believe once your re-active mind is gone you will be enlightened.

Cruise Rebuked for Calling Psychiatry a 'Pseudo Science'

LOS ANGELES -- Tom Cruise may be gracious to his fans, but he's not too particular about ticking off the American Psychiatric Association.

The group of nearly 36,000 mental illness physicians criticized the "War of the Worlds" actor for calling psychiatry a "pseudo science" on NBC's "Today" show on Friday, June 24, reports Reuters.

"It is irresponsible for Mr. Cruise to use his movie publicity tour to promote his own ideological views and deter people with mental illness from getting the care they need," says APA President Dr. Steven Sharfstein in a statement Monday (June 27).

Scientologists believe that all negative emotions and moods are a direct result of your own past actions. The only way to enlighten yourself is to confess everything bad, or that you feel guilty about that you have ever done to them to achieve a clear mind.

Pretty ingenious way to get the dirt on someone, especially a celebrity like Tom Cruise, no?

Tom wants depressed people to join scientogy and confess their misdeeds because when you do that you will be cured of your depression without meds.

Now we know why Tom and Nicole separated. No need to keep it secret anymore. His arrogance, self-importance and bigotry would be enough grounds for most women. I'm surprised Nicole tolerated him that long. And now he shows all the typical marks of a person belonging to a cult. I feel rather sorry for Katie Holmes.

A religion started by a mediocre science fiction writer... am I the only who finds this really hard to take seriously?

Mind you, I respect it, as I respect all faiths, but.. owno, this just seems weird to me

I'm a Scientologist, but not hardcore or anything. I don't go to the church services they have, I just try to apply some of Scientologies ideas to daily life and problems and it does work. I also agree about the rx drugs. All they do is nmask the problem, they don't fix it. My sister has a phobia of school. When she's on Zoloft she can handle school, but becomes zombie like. When we took her off Zoloft, she freaked and couldn't go to school. Problem solved? I don't think so. Scientology can help there. But you'll of course have to cough up thousands of $$$ in the process. I've read the book twice and it makes alot of sense. I've never gone to am auditor (Scientologist therapist) because of the steeped prices.
