As far as I know, I am not a hippie and have no hippie friends. I don't see any hippes wherever I go..so what is a hippie? Like some dude who is always happy and just smokes pot?...What's a hippie?..Do any of you categorise yourself as a "hippy"?!?
Its not a sterotype its a way of life. I wont go into detail but... I think I hippie is somebody who enjoys life, and is NEVER negative. Its not about the way you dress, and what you smoke and eat, its all about you. By the way um4r there have been alot of these threads posted just to let you know, so before you start a knew thread just read the old ones. I try to share my love with the people around me, and never try and bring negetivity into my Aura, and just share love. Peace and Love
Never negative... Well in a way once could say by you saying to me that there are other threads like this and go read them, your being negative...your trying to say..Go look and read, don't re-post. If your so happy and never negative you wouldn't even bothered writing that i the first place and just said what you think about hippy whatever but withouth the comment which can be seen as negative where you said indirectly, Go and read first, don't repost ?!?!?! Never negative...that must be hard.
A hippie is someone who identifies with and espouses the ideals associated with the countercultural movement of the sixties... For me, hipdom almost comes out of a sense of urgency- moreso in the sixties, with the threat of war with the Soviet Union- the sense that this lifestyle, if continued, will lead to the destruction of the planet, whether it be by environmental destruction or by nuclear war. Because of this, lots of people are re-examining the way that they live, and have lived for a long time and making lifestyle changes and changes in how they view the world. But it is positive, because we are young and are hopeful... we think we can find better ways of doing things. The hippies took us very far in a very short time, but we still have a very long way to go. They ended segregation, and yet thousands of minority voters were disenfranchised in the last election, they brought back the troops from an undeclared war, and yet we are today fighting a war that was begun under a false premise. It's not always a positive journey- but it's a necessary one. ... Dig?
Yeah, I agree with the previous two posters that it's more about your ideals than having long hair and dressing a certain way. I don't think it'll ever be quite the same as the 60s generation, and am in doubt if the newer generation who attach value to their ideals should be called hippies, but that's not an important question. What is important is how you think, not if you use enough drugs, listen to Bob Dylan 24/7, have long hair, or hang around the park all day. It's all about your view of the world and how it should be. I think it will differ among people what this worldview should be, and this is just my opinion: If you believe in the importance of positiveness in everything you do (not per se meaning that you can NEVER be negative), see beyond the unindividual unnaturalness of western culture, have respect for your fellow man and nature, believe that man's most important thing to possess is his freedom and his happiness (instead of wealth and power), undisturbed by hate, war, violence or intolerance, you might be well on your way to being a hippie.
In my opinion, being a hippy is about how you feel and how you treat others. I find it hard to believe that someone can be positive ALL the time, but if you have a positive outlook on life, I feel that that makes a great quality for being a hippy. Also, treating all others with respect and without prejudice is good too, as well as trying to aid those who are in need of aid. I didn't like how people called me a hippy based on the fact that I had long hair, so I shaved it off for cancer. Random people have since stopped calling me "Hippy", but why? I don't smoke anything anymore, and I'm branching out my tastes in music, but I feel that has only enhanced my "right" to be a "hippy". I don't feel that there is any difference in what I was, for I still volunteer at food banks, and such. Anyways, sorry for the little rant. In closing... Hippies... yeah... I like hippies... Party on guys...
You too smart, I hate you. (Not really) I thought hippies were about loving fellow human beings. "Make Love not War" Damn, I feel stupid.
Don't; hippie, being a label, means a lot of different things for lots of different people. What I see the label as is an open-minded, limited conformist; someone who embraces all kinds of ideals based on both logic and (loosely) reason. The fact is, people believe in different things; there are many similarities, but, like an organized religion, it's just many like ideas that are generally accepted by the group.
if i had to define what hippy is its someone always searching for happiness, looking for peace and tranquility in life, and just being happy with themselves and people, more or less what sarin said. that seems pretty accurate to me all my friends say i am most definetly a hippy, though i dont think they quite fully understand what being hippy is, so i dont know.
"hippy" is a hook this website uses to get misfit stoner kids to post, and feel like theyre connected to each other in some way, a way that's somehow related to the civil rights movement of the 60s. im sorry. but its true.
you're all wrong. There is no definate answer to "what is a hippie" you could take any of your little stereotypes and apply it to every "hippie" you meet and not every rule will fit everyone. also, if you're going to ask questions like this, browse around the board. There are a MILLION fucking threads already like this.
man if you want to know the answer to " what is a hippie, you gotta ask yourself " what am i all about?" like i am protesting the war we ar in. i support our troops but i dont support the war. i support the fact that the boys and gurlz in iraq need to come home. it's not about what you wear or what you listen to, or even what it was like! you don't spend time trying to describe it. you be it" don't dream it, be it" ( rocky horror picture show.) if you are all about vanity the perhaps you've taken a few too many looks in the mirror.
someone who tuned in to the website cuz that label is still around it ain't used to mean much more a misfitted stoner kid/ love/ others/ playback-aged/ communication-be-a-wanting/ posting a message to others
Hey yes i do becasue being a hippie has nothing to do with just the clothes and what you look like it's about the mind body and soul it's about being true to who you are and what you want believing or excepting other idealism searching for peace and peace can only come form the kind at heart and woeking towards that your whole life is beautiful and very enlightening
