There was a lady by the name of April Lawton that played lead guitar in a band named "Ramatam", two of the band members were Mitch Mitchell drummer ex of Hendrix Experience and Mike Pinera guitarist ex of Blues Image and Iron Butterfly. Back in the day the rumor was that Jimi himself taught April to play, if you hear the self titled lp now on cd you will see that she is a hell of player. Whiskey Place is a song she lets loose on. Any ideas of any good female Rock guitarist?
Anne Wilson...Heart...i think she is the one who played guitar...im probably wrong. "He's A Magic Man"
The girl from auf der maur plays bass, but she's a good bassist. She was in smashing pumpkins for like two albums I think.
I can't think of many exceptional female guitarists, except Tina Weymouth from the Talking Heads. But she plays bass.
Bonnie Raitt, sara mclachlan, me *cough* jk, and theres more just cant think of any right now hehe peace chickens
I would have to say Bonnie Rait or Susan Tedeschi. I saw Susan Tedeschi at Lilith Fair a few years back, she was on the little stage, she was so great. She's a terrific singer too.
There are no great female guitar players even close to the skills of the great male rock guitar players. Like Clapton,Page,Hendrix,Santana and Townshend. Not even close. But, there is a great female sitar player named Anoushka Shankar. Her skill is now close to that of her father,Ravi. Judging from the performance I witnessed last year.
i think i would have to agree with everyone that Mellissa Auf Der Maur is pretty cool...i love her better than with Hole but she was great with the smashing pumpkins too
Argh, i hate these comparison things.. how do you rate it?? Cos technically blows out of the water but she's not rated because thats all she is, a techically excellent guitarist.
