Is anyone into these guys, i saw em in the spring and they are a killer live show, if you havent heard them they are a must listen. They have a real cool sound and if they are in your area it is a great show for 20 bucks. I wanna hear peoples opinions on them if they are into them or have seen them.

Robert Randolph is great, I know of only one other Pedal steel player that can top him and that is Rusty Young of "Poco". Pedal steel is one of the hardest instruments to play and Robert Randolph plays it hard and its a breath of fresh air to see someone take this one time country instrument into the rock field as Rusty Young did in the 70's. Just listen to the 2nd Poco album, the song 'El Tonto de Nadie Regressa'. Rusty makes his pedal steel sound like a organ and at the end of the song jam he hits notes that sound exactly like a trumpet, I saw them in 71' and could not believe the sounds and riffs he does on his pedal steel. Yeah the family band should be around for sometime..

Robert Randolph started out playing music in his church and vowed never to play his music except for the glory of god, but talent like that can't be kept a secret forever. John Medeski of Medeski,Martin, and Wood found out about this guy and convinced to roll out and play his music for the masses under the premise that he could make mad $$$ for the church. So he and Robert Randolph and some other guy formed a band called "The Word" and rolled out for a while and were great but I guess Randolph decided to try something differant. Look out for this guy, hes' just getting started.
