This isn't in order, I'm just looking through the iTunes on my computer and naming the guitarists who come up: Frank Zappa Jeff Magnum Peter Buck Robert Fripp George Harrison Jerry Garcia Nick Drake Eddie Hazel John McLaughlin Pye Hastings Dave Gilmour Eric Clapton Jimi Hendrix Robert Quine Tom Verlaine Richard Lloyd Mick Ronson Jeff Beck Jimmy Page Keith Richards Phil Manzanera Carlos Santana Randy California Micheal Karoli Daevid Allen
Oh for sure!!! Lindsey is so underrated it pisses me off. He's a fucking animal, I love him!!! You know who else is underrated, Arlo Guthrie, he's an amazing guitar player and if you really listen to his songs you'll hear all of these underlying scale runs and it'll blow your mind! Bruce Cockburn is another favorite of mine and I'm particularly fond of Ani Difranco's aggressive emotional style. I love Jerry Garcia's note-for-note banjo influenced crystal clear technique and I love Neil Youngs sloppy but skillful playing. In the end its all good.
My personal favorite will always be Jimmy Page, there isn't a better guitar riff to me then the one on Whole Lotta Love. Then Robert Johnson, and ofcourse Hendrix.
Yeah! I saw Arlo back in 1987 and then again in 1990. Freakin' brilliant! As a guitarist, I was blown away by his ability to effortlessly keep up a somewhat complex fingerpicking thing while musing philosophically. Also he is certainly one of the funniest performers I have ever seen (yeah, well, the mushrooms helped a little). His is easily one of the top five shows I have seen. O.K then, the others are: Yes at Anaheim's Arrowhead Pond 2004, Steel Pulse at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium 1993, Michael Hedges at Oberlin College 1990, Arlo Guthrie at the Michigan Theater, Ann Arbor 1987, and either The Grateful Dead at Ann Arbor's Chrisler Arena in 1988, or CSNY at the Staples Center in L.A. in 2001. Does anyone know if Arlo still performs? I would love to see him again.

While I like many of the guitarists mentioned, I feel Mark Knopfler is way underrated and ranks among my favorites! His best work with Dire Straits is probably from 'Making Movies.'
