apparently some people are not overjoyed about the annointed site. some new england folks have set up camp about halfway between the two sites, (the original site and the new one) , they say that it is a fine site, much bigger than the official site, more privacy, great views, and better vibes all round, much more like what we are accustomed to at a gathering.

    stay open,
    seek balance,
    question everything

we too, heard about this site; but nothing even remotely reliable. The rumor is that this site was offered to the Family & that the FS said that no permit was needed for this site. Sounds a little weird to us.....

NERF is a kitchen and they have a lot of CALM folks associated with them. This may be a powerful movement. They're one of the biggest tribes around.

    here's the invite from agr:

i am passing this on from NERF kitchen:

    From: joan from maine
Subject: Barton's Knob (where NERF is)

Directions from Elkins, South on 219 to Huttonsville,
southeast on 250 9 miles to FR227, opposite FR92 at
top of Cheat Mountain. Follow 227 7 miles to 233,
then right .3 miles to 233A, hard right then 1.7 miles
up hill to bus village. We will probably have a drop
off, turnaround shuttle scene at intersection of 223
and 223A, cause best parking is on 227.

Reasons for NERF Kitchen Consensus to not go to
Pocohontas County, primarily because the Family
consensed not to go there at TG Council. Secondly,
the Forest Service put the Family there (and many felt
they had no choice. Now they do) The fact that the
Family has lost three members in Poc. County, Two
girls murdered in 1980, a man in 90 or 91 while in the
    County jail (same sherriff)

Reasons for not going there now, It's too small (one
square mile in a triangle, surrounded by roads. The
woods are taped off so those who step into them (the
Wilderness) will be ticketed. It is a swamp. Cars
are already getting stuck and it has been a dry
    spring.
It's a health issue, as well, how do you dig a shitter
in a swamp. Family doesn't gather in Wilderness areas
    generally.

Folks have gone there today to invite the Cranberry
    people to join us.

Ther is no cell service at the site, and the nearest
pay phone is over 20 miles, Library in Elkins.

Need to go, I am on a supply run today. Please join
us in a beautiful spot, and support a safe healthy
    unparanoid gathering.

PS Forest Service has told us we do not need a permit
    for this site.
I love you guys, please pass this on,
    Joan

hmm..well..it certainly will be interesting to see what is going on whenever i finaly get there
    thsnk you for the info.
i wasat the gathering when the brother died at the hands of the cops from what i understood he had been arressted off site & had been beeten & then hung in his cell, the cops claimed it was suicide but another person in a nearby cell reported hearring him being beatten, & had seen him all bruised up
i beleive the lawyers had been working on a case against them, but i have no idea what became of it..there really should be somewhere we can get accurate & up to date info on all legal issues & cases
but i'm getting off topic..i really hope by the time the actual gathering starts we can all come together in 1 place in unity, if we let them devide us they win even more then if we let them move us..but hats just my opinion

I pray that some folks with good will and an intention to be objective and diplomatic can travel between the two sites and give a report of their views.

And I pray that we can come together in the right way and the right place.

    Prayers and Blessings

    saturday:
personally i think that the cheat mountain site sounds like a much better site. the invitation to go there was just posted yesterday. so i am not convinced by the message that the people there are suddenly leaving.

the other cranberry site definately sounds much less than interesting. i am still inclined to go first to the cheat mountain site. if there's only a few hundred people there that don't want to be corraled into the other site it would be fine with me.

the gathering in quebec is the entire month of august, minus all the cow manure. i know it not easy for rainbows to cross the border especially with very little money, but it's worth a try. there are plenty of options.

    truth, simplicity and love

    hari on namah sivaya
    love will take you higher

sunday morning: ok i guess we're heading for cranberry fields. let's see what's up.

the bartons knob site would seem to be the origional strip mine site,, and if im not mistaken was one of the three origional sites considered at spring council..

from what ive read if it gos over 75 people there will be a permit signed there as well...

anyway it go's it would seem like a viable option for many diffrent reasons if the cranberry site for whatever of those reasons isnt what ones looking to find...

    luv n lite

Here is what appears to be some first hand info from both Cheat Mountain and Cranberry from a poster on AGA:

I was on the Cranberry site last weekend, and I was at Cheat Mountain. The water at Cranberry comes from springs well above shitters, and even from springs outside the site. I helped lay some of this pipe, I speak from being there. The people who left Cheat Mountain left because there were no sites for a kitchen. There were no sites for camping. We scouted Cheat Mountain, we intended to camp there, it simply wasn't possible. The trees are too dense for camping in them, and the there are many dangerous drop offs that could seriously injure our family. When I left Cheat
Mountain, I had not encountered a single hippie who left Cranberry. The only ones I met were people who HEARD Cranberry was bad.
