I have known my friend Fiona since we were six...if you look at my age that's a long time ...we are very different, she is a glamorous flight attendant, I have been a stay at home mum for a long time.....but two years ago she became obsessed with the idea of having a baby, and two days ago at the age of forty three she gave birth to her first child, a healthy fair haired boy, three weeks early by elective caesarian, weighing 10lbs 2oz (hmmm I think they could have entered the record books if she had decided to go full term..........) I was wondering, if any of you could help me with thinking of a gift for her? I was thinking of a book, but that is what I would have liked in her situation:& .....maybe something pampering??.......
Congrats to her Is there anything in particular that she needs? You could always make up a little book of cheques for the little things that are so appreciated (a meal prepared for her, an hour of baby sitting, that kind of thing) for her to 'cash in' to you as and when.
My advice comes from what *I* would like so it may not be fitting whatsoever but its an idea... I once got a frozen main dish that I really appriciated. I was able to pop it in the oven during the week. It really was so thoughtfull. I also got a homemade loaf of bread which I LOVED! Some other ideas might be a great book on attachment parenting ~ Flowers, fresh veggies, body wash, a yummy basket of fresh fruit.... Hope that helps!
Absolutely for any mama. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League The Baby Book by William and Martha Sears Attachment Parenting by Katie Allison Granju There are more, but these are the first three most parents should have.
Thanks for your good and creative ideas ....I'm thinking at the moment of going over once a week and looking after young Rufus while Fiona has a bath or a nap ( that will be nice for me as at forty three I have faced up to the fact that more babies are unlikely)......and I had forgotten about slings..I'll just have to convince her that a sling isn't the first step on the path to hippydom :X
I would like to sugest a gift certificate for a maid service. Or volenteer to go over and do house work for her. I remember when I had my first baby that first month I don't think anything got done....
i agree that a home-cooked meal would be awesome Frozen is great, but she might not have room in the freezer, lol, at least i wouldn't so maybe warn her ahead of time that you're bringing something. Homemade bath salts for her "weekly" bath would be nice too; 3 parts epsom salts, 2 parts baking soda, 1 part table salt, several drops essential oils for scent (but maybe after her incision heals! i don't know how long that takes). Just add 1/4 to 1/2 cup to a warm bath, and ta-dah!
You guys are so supportive! Thank You! I think that would be the best gift you can give, a good housecleaning, a sit while she takes a nap, a spa gift certificate, some pampering products for bath or foot scrubs. You could even give her a foot massage while you try to convince her to use a babycarrier/sling!! I can't recommend The Natural Family Boutique enough! They have some really great products from carriers/slings to books to wooden toys etc. If you take a moment to browse my link you'll probably find something for her.
