"No one gets out alive" is a good book on Jim Morrison. But to say Stone's The Doors is a great film, and that Kilmer is a great Morrison is kind of a stretch. Stone's film has many faults (incorrect data), and I really hate Kilmer as Morrison, because he portrays him as this drunk bastard, and this is not what Jim Morrison was about. He was a very intelligent person, a wonderful soul, and a great poet! (imo)

Yeah, I love Jim, too... I don't know, there's lots of great songs... My favorite are: The Crystal Ship, LA Woman, When The Music's Over, Roadhouse Blues, Moonlight Drive...
And his poetry is brilliant, too. American Prayer is great, Jim's voice sounds amazing!

I've been a Doors fan my hole life...... but i think it's unfair to credit Morrison and not all the Doors for there musical acoplishments.......

Jim Morrison was a genius. I was 9 rs old and living at the Freedom Farm with my dad and we went to L.A to see The Doors. Right before the concert there was a big party in Topanga for the Hog Farm. Alot of acid was taken at these parties and PigPen had asked Morrison to come and the rumor was that he was coming. A few hours into the party they called Jim's Hotel room and his girlfriend said he was too drunk to go. The Doors put on an amazing show the next night. I know I was really young but memories like that (and all the Grateful Dead Concert's and the 1 time I got to see Janis) never fade. But to be fair to history Morrison was very depressed alot of the time and he drank alot. When he died, the Farm held a candlelight ceremony for Jim. Those that knew him told stories about how SunnyGirl had tried to talk him into dropping acid but Jim was a coke head. No one that I knew had ever known him to do heroin and there was alot of talk about how or even if he died.
This is all I know of Jim Morrison and the story is true to the best of my memory. My dad still plays Door's CD's all day every July 2nd in honor of Jim.
Today marks the 34th anniversary of his death. Today we play all his songs, all day. Somewhere in heaven this brilliant man is smiling down, finally at peace.

I love The Doors can't list em all. Looking through all the albums you are doing yourself an injustice if you don't buy all the original albums instead of the compilations.

That said, Though it is not the absolute favorite song, I really like the Peace Frog

Oh man, I fucking LOVE The Doors.

"When The Music's Over" is my favorite.

The guitar solo brings me close to orgasm :)

Best lyrics song would have to be "The Crystal Ship."

and best karaoke song, "Soul Kitchen."

    *giggles*

    don't ask how i know that!! :)

When it comes to the Doors it all came together. A lot is said about Morrison and rightfully so, but you can't discount the rest of the band. What an eclectic mix from a musical background point of view. The truth is they were prefectly right for eachother, any other combo would have been all wrong in my opinion.

Orgasmic is a good way to put it

love the doors. i started reading stuff about jim morrison a while back and thought that he was a friggin genious. then i bought the doors a legacy and remember liking the lyrics but not being too impessed with the music. anyway a few months ago i put on the cd when i was completely baked and now i think that they are the best band ever. it is just good dancing music to just grove to. damn i love them.
