I've got a bit of a dilemma here...any suggestions would be helpful. I have a wireless Mac laptop, and it is running off of my housemate's port (he lives upstairs, I've got a basement apartment)...anyway, I can't access my yahoo email from the computer; I still have to go to the library to get my email. And, when I try to sent email from my Mac address on this computer, sometimes it doesn't get delivered. I called Apple about the problem, and they gave me some suggestions that didn't work (adjusting the port, but I don't know how to do that, and my housemate, who owns the thing doesn't either) Is it a problem with the wireless system? I did a wireless thing on my now defunct PC laptop, and the same thing happened. Any ideas would be helpful...thanks! :sunglasse

Yeah, I do get internet, Trotsky...it is slow sometimes, but I do get it. I just can't seem to access the Yahoo email (I can access the yahoo website, and read the news stuff on it, just can't get into email). Can't figure it out. So far, Apple isn't much of a help. I may have to just take it in to where I bought it, and have them look at it. I don't think it is a computer malfunction though, I think it is the wireless connection. I'm not proficient at computers by a long shot, I can surf with the best of 'em, but as far as anything technical, I'm lost. My mac won't always let me post here at hipforums either (I'm at the library now), I was lucky to be able to get this thread started...sucks, big time.

Have you subscribed to Yahoo's paid service that includes POP/SMTP access? If not, the web site is the only way you can access Yahoo mail.

Does it make any difference if you move the laptop very close to the wireless access point?

What happens when you try to access HipForums?

If you had the same problem with a PC, and if you are able to access some Internet content, I don't think it is possible that the problem is with the computer itself. It may be misconfigured or you may be using it incorrectly, but I doubt that the computer itself is broken.

Yeah, I think you're right, Lonely goatherd...and, thanks for your response. I wish I were more of a tech-y sort so that I could understand what the hell Apple was trying to tell me when I call them about the problem. One of the apple support people told me to download Firefox, that it would be easier to access yahoo from there, but I can't figure out how...its just the same as safari as far as yahoo goes. I may take the 'puter in to the apple store where I got it to see if they can re-configure it for me. Hope that works...when I move, I'm going to get a regular computer connection, and not use the wireless feature, and that will likely take care of the problem...at least, I hope so.

I'm a total Mac-head. I didn't mean to get a little defensive in my post, but when people act likes Macs "just don't work" I get frustrated. I realize now that that's probably not what you meant.

Anyway, it's hard for me to suggest anything further without more specifics... if you didn't know, you can take a screenshot by hitting command-shift-3. You will then get a file called "Picture 1" on your desktop. This is a good way to show people what you are experiencing.

I have problems like this but mine is with a sony. I normally just restart the computer and repair the wireless connection and that solves that.

Thanks, LG and Hiro...appreciate the suggestions!! I actually love my Mac HG....I think overall it works better than my old PC, and it is a hell of a lot more interesting to me. I'll prob. never own a PC again...I just need to figure out the wireless system on my Mac, and I'm sure it will do everything perfectly. As I learn more about my Mac, I'll probably be a total Mac-head too...
