My 3.5 yr old has NOT been taking naps lately and its really getting quite irritating! :)

When did your baby stop napping?

I know he ~needs~ the nap because he gets so naughty in the afternoon when he doesn't have his nap.

I think it might be partly due to the fact that he isn't getting enough energy out. It is so hot and humid here and I am not able to take him to the park and play like I had been.

    Any ideas?

All my kids gave up nappiong around 3. I know what you mean about the pent up energy, we have long cold winters here in the north and I would have kids bounching off the walls! Is there any indoor place where you can go to do some active playing or maybe a swimming pool?

We also do yoga and dancing in the house to get some physical exercize. It helps the kids to get focused and centered too. I made yoga fun for the little ones by giving all the poses fun animal and nature names, and then let them act out that animal too.

My daughter just turned 2 in January and rarely takes naps. She gets so frustrating sometimes around 3 or 4 oclock if she doesn't nap. I found just plain ol' quiet time works almost as well as a nap. Lay down with him around his usual nap-time and read to him or tell him a story. Make the room quiet and dark. If he doesn't fall asleep, maybe he'll at least rest a little and recharge so he's not so grumpy.

I know about hot and humid, too. I live in SC and the average temp. in the summer is 95-100. I just keep them in their little $10 kiddie pool and spray them with the hose. Let him run around for a few minutes in the sun and he'll fall asleep before you know it!

My daughter are 2.5 and 4. and They rarly take a nap. But we still have quiet time because with them and my newborn I need a break. I just tell them that it's nap time and they go in their room, at first they are in bed, but soon they get up and play with toys, and as long as they are quiet I just let them play for a hour or so.

My dd, 4, just recently stopped napping. It was such a chore to get her to sleep that I finally just stopped the war and decided to deal with the fallout in the early evening when she was over-tired. It was difficult for a few days, but since then we've found it much easier at bedtime since she's really tired. This 2.5-4.5 is such a difficult age for me because they are so in between so many stages.

I have boy/girl twins and within the past week my son has decided that he doesn't need a nap anymore. He gets so fussy, but he won't nap at all. My daughter would sleep as long as I would let her. I sometimes feel like it is the energy thing. He honestly acts like he's hopped up on speed or something. I would love to know how to get all of this energy out of him.

kai quit napping about a year ago, at 2-1/2. occaisionally she'll turn to me and say "i need to lay down" then go lay down to sleep. but it's rare. i really wish she would nap, because i'm getting so sleep deprived i can hardly think anymore. my world is totally going twilight zone on me.

keep him busy in the house playing ball. Put on music he can dance and jump and spin to. Don't give him juice at lunch. Let him play in the hose with some toys. Lay under a blanket and let him wrestle you. My son is almost 4. I just keep him takin naps . Sometimes he's not tired enough and I just tell him to rest then I let him get up if he's still really not tired.
