this is for everyone on my nuts in this thread

You are all as close minded as the hillbillys and rednecks you hate. Simply because i am from Texas doesnt make me anything. I thought hippies were tolerant of others, non judgemental, and accepting of everyone. I guess you only accept people as long as they agree with you huh? very intelligent of a thing to do. You are all classic examples of the hypocritical movement you all represent. This is why no one takes your message seriously. You are no better than a redneck. A redneck is close minded and judges people on things like where they are from which is exactly what yall are doing. Yall accept everything as long as it doesnt challenge your views. how open minded right?

As for PBS, tell me in the constution where it says government is responsible for producing a TV network. PBS is just another example of how bloated our government has become. Anything the government does can be done better, cheaper, and more efficent by the private sector. the end. fuck yall for hating on my state and the people here

WASHINGTON - Big Bird and National Public Radio won a reprieve Thursday as the House restored $100 million that had been proposed as a budget cut for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The 284-140 vote demonstrated the enduring political strength of public broadcasting, whose supporters rallied behind popular programs such as "Sesame Street," "Postcards From Buster" and "The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer."

    WE WIN BITCHES :D

More squandering of our tax dollars. As for the popularity vote... What was the vote to go into Iraq? What was the plurality in the un Patriot Act? Plurality doesn't mean right. I guess for Iraq, the "republicans" can say "We won bitches. We're right!" Idiot.

    Don't call me idiot

It was kind of joke, but fuck off anyway.

This is about NPR and PBS, not the other votes, die.

Maybe you should listen to NPR and learn something.

Anyway, disaster averted, score one for educational broadcasting.

    WE WON BITCH :D:D :D

Don't stew in it too long, I would hate for you to feel depressed...and you've still got FOX news

Are you really without cable T V ?

I'd love to see PBS de funded, they could earn thier own money by selling commercials. Big Bird is very marketable.

Goverment funding means goverment censorship. Are you aware of
the controversey over PBS's Buster Bunny program ?

Actually, I prefer to READ to enhance my education, not have someone TELL me what to believe. If the "great unwashed" need "educational broadcasting" from PBS, NPR, god help them. And again, I say, just because the plurality of the crooks on capitol hill agree with something, doesn't mean it's right. That IS relevant, since you brought it up. Oh well. Enjoy your brain washing. I'm sure over the years, it will become cleaner and cleaner.

I'm not whining, and contrary to your stereotypical view of things, I DON'T watch fox news. I just don't think the government should be in the business of funding mass media broadcasts. If you like it so much, why not pay for it yourself? I like Nova. But I wouldn't pay to see it. Now I get to pay for all kinds of programming that I do not, and will never, see. Great. Again, the government forces us to pay for things with which we disagree.

Well, its really only a drop in the bucket. The government itself just "lost", what was it, 300 million earmarked for Iraq reconstruction...I don't see the problem with setting a little aside to fund public broadcasting.

I'm sure you won't miss that extra dollar per year, right?

If I could use it for myself, damn right I will miss it. Just wait until the PBS and NPR go to broadcast "the government's agenda". I've lived in countries where that goes on. In my opinion, it is just a matter of time until it happens in the US. You are all for it now, because it supports your views. What about when it goes to broadcast propaganda for our "emerging" totalitarian government? Don't believe it could happen? Just wait and see. THAT'S why I don't like the government being in the business of mass media broadcasting. We'll see what happens then. And why are YOU bringing up that Iraq s*it in this forum :)?

What shit is that? I was pointing out that there is government waste everywhere that totals far more than this small amount of funding.

I don't like it because it supports my views, I like it because I beieve its high quality braodcasting that ISN't supported by advertisers, which I think frees it up some.

What other countries are you referring to? I think the BBC is a high quality broadcasting system, CBC is not bad.

The point is, I'm happy about this, sorry if you are not. I'm sure there are all kinds of things the government is doing that you like and I don't.

Sorry about your dollar ;) I'll send you one if you want it so bad.

Think about your statement. Whether you are reading something, watching it, or listening to it, it is still someone telling you something. :D

Really? I was merely pointing out your use of a scenario about which you called me out earlier.
It does not broadcast high-quality programming, in my opinion, with a few exceptions, but that is just AN OPINION and as such always open to debate.
I am referring to totalitarian countries, such as Romania, for example, where mass media was used to broadcast the "will of the government". Look at North Korea, Cuba, etc, as well to see how mass comm is used to control the people. Why should the US government finance ANY broadcasting? In the future, good ol' PBS may be the only TV you see. NPR may be the only radio you hear. But, since you are half way brainwashed, it may not be so traumatic. By the way BBC is biased if you look, CBC extremely so.

You've got to be kidding me. The private media is huge in the US, there is very little chance of that ending.
