For awhile now, I've been wondering, "Is there a revolution knocking, but no one is home?". A wise man once said "the revolution is always in the hands of the young". Is this our vice? Is our youth preventing us. Look at the forums and you'll discover some people on here are very young, and its great to see their enthusiasm, i know the world will be better because they're in it. But, what about us, college aged students. In times of sever pressure to conform to society, its a serious mental battle to protest...But a revolution is required for our soceities evolution. The similarites of the 60's era are similar...not vietnam, but iraq....not blacks, but homosexuals....and so on and so forth. I was watching the news the other night and it was showing how there were people from a church (of all places) that flew in from across the country to California to protest a gay/straight alliance group at these high school kids graduation. It made me have a severe mental image of people protesting blacks being able to go to school with caucasian people. Support for the war and president is declining....the public is getting impatient and irratable....i've heard hard core republicans say "voting for bush is one of the mistakes i've made in my life". People are starting to realize the lies that were being fed to them (finally). But, in the same instance...realize the 60's is gone, and we are in a new era. Yes yes, there are still flower children, and peaceful protests still work...but its different now. Realize that we need a new revolution, and not a resurection of an older era. Let's take what we can from the 60's so we can create some sort of equality and peace. Remember that small deeds to a world of difference. But so do large events. I think its time to rise. Basically, what I'm saying is, when the revolution stops knocking and busts down your door...be home. Its coming sooner than we think. Much love on your bitching journey through life
Sorry, but do you REALLY think a revolution is possible in self-involved reality show America? I don't. The sheep have been fed, watered, and sedated, and all is well...
you know what, if you think the way you are right now....you're right. no offense, but no amount of negative energy will solve any problems. Positivity is the only solution... a small group of people can change the world....in fact, its the only thing that ever has
That sounds just LOVELY but... the fact is, a critical mass of individuals are needed for anything to come about. True, an individual may be rallied around and become a symbol but... there must be a certain amount of committed people to bring things to fruition. And, as a realist, I argue that a "revolution" will never happen in this country, as long as the herd gets their bread and circuses. No, I see things slowly but surely drifting toward totalitarianism every day. A strangely american "socialist" -"fascist" hybrid type of totalitarianism the likes of which have never been seen on earth before. But uh, good luck with your "revolution". Be sure to write when it happens. By the way, I'll bet you're really young, right? The idealism hasn't been beaten out of you and the realism hasn't quite set in...
well hell, i think a little differently. i have a lot of faith in people for the most part. you're kinda right. i guess no revolution ever existed...ever! its like abby hoffman said, some shit like...."we didn't end racism, but we ended legal segregation.." and that kinda shit. its all in retrospect that we reazlize something big has happend, and for that reason, i guess there never will be a revolution....and thats just my opinion, just as you have yours. and anyhow....nothing exsists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion.....hmmmm. you seem pretty interesting too. much love on your far out journey through life. chin up
I have too seen how this era, in terms of politics, seems similar to that of the 60's. Iraq and Vietnam, homosexuals and blacks. I do see slightly more people realizing whats going on, but those Bible-thumping, uber-patriotic, gun-toting, nuclear-family-or-go-scrrew-yourself bigots just keep getting louder as well. I live in a moderate-sized city in Massachusetts, and thus I live in a fairly liberal area, however I do know quite a few bigots. However, as I am seeing, in my area at least, the younger generation is far more liberal than the parent generation. We do need to rise up and protest on a large scale to set things right in this country. I already feel as if I am a member of the revolution. I write to congressmen. I take part in protests and vigils. I've also started to drag a few friends in as well, hopefully they'll draw thier friends in too, and the chain will spread.
we haven't had the analogous tet offensive yet, stuff happened but nothing really exploded til after that complete destruction of morale we get a tet offensive, the scales will tip and we'll have another 1968 (obviously we'll need a little more pressure too, the assanations and the other nasty things that were happening made tet the straw that broke the camels back but we're close to that now) we just need a tet to cause the flexure btw, we won tet.........
i know the youth is so beautiful in their beliefs. and even the "bible thumping" people are coming around to realize maybe are president is a little nuts (well, at least some of them). But the real Jesus freaks....man they are FAR OUT. They love the peace happiness and equality. And the homosexual/black argument seems pretty valid to me, when you look at civil rights and a group of opressed people. And Quest Techie is completely right....this shit might just explode here realllll fucking fast. Bush is not going to pull out of Iraq...hes still got at least 2 more years there.... Much love to you all....keep on truckin', fighting evil where it may be hahha
^^But they didn't have "Fear Factor" or "The Real World" back then... As far as the death toll, Ive heard that it's actually closer to 6,000, as deaths of soldiers trasported to Germany and the US and other out-of-Iraq sites aren't included. Don't take that as fact, but that's what I've heard. Revolution, yeah, it'd be nice. Just a rise in true activism would be fine, if we could get the media to do some real investigative reporting, and get the government to be truly transparent where it counts. But the media are corporate controlled, and without an informed populace, a democratic government cannot exist...but the corporations gain too much with this corrupt system to evern willingly relinquish control. But one this is for sure: something must be done, or sooner or later our rights are going to be gone, lost to "A strangely american "socialist" -"fascist" hybrid type of totalitarianism the likes of which have never been seen on earth before."
amen tripping. but if anything is to truly happen, we can't rely on the filth of amerika to do it themselves. you think they'd give up that power voluntarily? no way....we the people, collectivelly....we CAN do ANYTHING.....we just need to get up and go..
