I'm a nanny for 3 kids and i thought that play doh would be a ton of fun for the time inside and out. does anyone have any good ideas on how to make play doh? thanks a bunch
Mr Rogers just does it with water and flour. You have to put it in tupperware afterwards. Play-doh is cool.
2 cups flour 1 cup salt 1/2 cup +/- water 1 tablespoon salad oil optional: food coloring or powdered tempra paint fine glitter essential oil (for a scented play clay) combine the water & the salt. add the oil, and then the water, a little at a time, mixing with hands, until it forms a stiff dough. if you use powdered tempra or glitter, add it when you combine the flour & salt. add food coloring and/or essential oil with the water. store in a ziploc bag in the fridge for up to a week.
You can also make whatever shapes you want and bake them on a cookie sheet, about 200 degrees until they're hard. -Pedata
the recipe i use is a lot like kitty's except that i cook it to dissolve the salt sometimes we use koolaid for the colouring. last time i made it i used water that i had boiled beets in--it made the playdough a really pretty pinky-red colour. zeee possiblities....zay are endlesss.... i have to make more right away. the big kid (my husband) was playing with it and forgot to put it away properly so it all dried out.
Aww...this thread makes me think of my Grandma When we were little, my brother & I would go over to her apartment & she would patiently do crafts with us for hours on end. She always made playdoh for us & hers was so much better & so much more fun than the stuff in the plastic containers! Thanks for bringing it up! peace cortnee
Ingredients 2 cups of water 2 cups of plain flour 4 tablespoons of cream of tar tar 1 cup of salt 2 tablespoons of oil Food colouring 1. Stir all ingredients together in a pot over med-low heat until it forms a dough. This will take awhile. (you can put the colour in now, or split the mixture later to make several colours) 2. When you can't stir it anymore, let it cool a bit and then turn it out and knead it until it is smooth. Add extra flour if necessary. 3. Store it in air-tight containers. This stuff lasts for months! I made some near the beginning of school, and my kids are still using it!
wow thanks you guys for all the recipes the one using cream of tarter reminds me of the stuff my mom used to make when i was little. i want to use koolaid to make the stuff smell and look good too... that would work instead of food coloring right?
when i worked in a pre-school i amde a dough from corn starch and water...you just put the corn starch in a bowl, then add water until it is the right consistency. it makes a really cool dough that it is hard in the bowl and melts into goo in your hands...the kids used to dig that.
terrapinchasin~we call that stuff gak MaryJeanne~yep...koolaid is instead of food colouring--heres an idea of what you'll get...
<< I'm a nanny for 3 kids and i thought that play doh would be a ton of fun for the time inside and out. does anyone have any good ideas on how to make play doh? >> This isn't play-doh, but you can mix cornstarch with water and it will make an interesting compound that will amuse them for awhile.
