Supposedly it means that the third-world workers who made it were paid well and worked under decent conditions.
That's what I learend today, when I asked someone else...she said it meant no one was exploited/screwed over in the making/growing of a product, that they were paid a fair price, etc.
Fair trade helps some producers at the expense of others. The low price of coffee on the world markets is because too much is being produced. Fairtrade helps the richer coffee producers, who have greater opportunities to switch away from coffee, to stay in the market. That punishes the poorer coffee farmers who have less opportunity.
i'm new here to HIpForum , but about Fair Trade stuff...it's something you can find at Oxfam's website or whatever you google with "fair trade , make trade fair" i guess... Price on any product is determined by company...which is part of ESTABLISHMENT.( just my opinion though) and we can't tell why is it that expensive or why is it cheep. Like, we don't know why they decided to sell things with that price, and there mi8t be something wrong with that price: some ppl might have been exploited, treated badly. As a just another comsumer, I don't know how I can buy things in the way that doesn't make negative influence in the world, and i think fair trade is one of the effort to make us capable of buying products in the better way. Once you laugh at your own weakness, you can move forward. Comedy breaks down walls. It opens up people. If you're good, you can fill those openings with something positive. Maybe you can combat some of the ugliness in the world. Goldie Horn
Fari trade is a good idea, and i do try and buy there products. I think the best way to help africa is to help it's workers help themselves.
yeah...i always try to buy fair trade. it may not be perfect, but it's certainly better than supporting slave labor....better than doing nothing.
