If this thread has already been done, just ignore it, but....it seems like everybody on this earth and his brother plays the guitar. WHY??!! Does it make you feel like a 'rock star'? Do you just enjoy playing? Did someone else get you into it? Do you just have alove for the guitar? Are you any good? I started playing about 3 years ago. I've never had any musical training and don't really consider myself a musician. I've played a trumpet for about a year (and sucked at it) then started messing around on piano/keyboard, but the guitar seems to be the one instrument I can actually make music on.
I started playing guitar because theres nothing else in the world that Id rather commit to. it just feels right. I spend nearly all of my time on it
I would guess about 625,456,566.63 Haha..alright that was lame. But for real, I'm not trying to hate on anybody for playing. Just making conversation
i play because its the best way for me to express my thoughts and feelings. I could imagine no other way to spend my life really then playing guitar.
some may say everyone plays guitar because everyone else plays guitar. i ay everyone plays guitar cus its the coolest fucking instrument. 1. it feels great to hold 2. its a very social instrument 3. they are beautiful 4. they make beautiful music 5. girls want my penis more
theres definitly alot of people out there who play guitar, but Id bet theres more than ten times as many who play keyboard, because its much simpler and easier to learn
I play it because I have a lot of time on my hands, I live in a rural military community with a lot of people I really don't want to be around, and I am the proud owner of a life that I couldn't pawn for $5.00 without it...
Wait. You mean knowing two 3 chord songs doesn't count as playing? (haha ) I don't know what it is about the guitar...it is a sexy instrument though. I guess the only instrument I'd describe as sexy.
damn, I guess Im not as good as I thought I was its sexy because its shaped like a womans body, therefore proving your latent lesbianism ...just kidding
so many people play guitar, and then you see most of them hanging out at the guitar shop when they're 30 wondering why they never made it... why? because so many people play the freaking thing. unless you're better than hendrix or satriani or garcia, you're probably never gonna get anywhere if you cant write decent songs, or if you dont have someone writing songs for you. so write songs, everybody. :H
Im not sure why i started, but I have always loved music throughout my life, I actually started playin this year, I find that it takes alot of determintation, and energy to try and reach your full poetinal in guitar. But I still play because i have no other choice, i started it and now i have to keep on playin, it has become a part of me, a drug that i am addicited to. It also helps me to relax, and also to think, i find that my thoughts while playing are some of the most true and pure. I just find guitar as being somewhat of a religious experience for me, it calms and pures my soul.
thats not entirely true. most people (given that they possess some considerable talent) dont "make it" because they dont want to get involved with all the politics of record labels and whatnot, theyre in it for nothing more than the music itself. the rest of the people hanging around your local guitar shop probably arent very serious about playing guitar it just goes to show you that you dont have to be better than all of the greats that you mentioned, you just have to sell out and appeal the masses of people who listen to the radio... take bands like simple plan and avril lavigne for instance. its not really a question of making good music, its just a question of making music that people want to hear. and being able to do both is usually the product of sheer luck and lots of hard work. how often does a Jimi Hendrix or a Jerry Garcia come along?
Doesn't this apply to all other instruments, though? Unless you're really good, you're not going to "make it" according to your definition of making it.
I play the guitar because I love music alot. At first I played the flute but you have such a limited reach there, and then it's a rather logical step to buy a guitar. Now I really enjoy it, I practise at least an hour a day and every day when I wake up I'm happy to see my guitar standing there So basically I play the guitar because I need something to make music on and I love the sound of it.
