this is a thread for all of the young hippies who have come to see what the ones before them are discussing. So personaly i would like to extend a thanks to all who have paved the road before me.
i often wonder about the old hippies and dream of the young hippies. i wonder what happened to so many who were attracted to the lifestyle and ideology. why were they willing to be co-opted or abandon it? i look at myself and i am thankful that i have kept my belief in an alternative to materialism as best. i have remained a vegetarian and a buddhist/taoist. i am a political activist. but here i am sitting in my lower middle class home. of my two children which i both love, one is a redneck construction worker and the other is a struggling artist. to most that i know i am the most liberal person they know. but because i feel constrained, they don't know of my red and black radical heart. being a young hippie in today's death affirming world is a statement of courage and hope. the world will be a better place if take your heart and cultivate compassion and joy in it. if there is a social order that will survive the orgasm of death, polltution, and greed that our politicians and corporate slavemasters are leading us towards; then that future we need young/older hippies to give hope and joy. you younger ones will need to need to kiss, hug, and love each other well. you must teach your children. go for it.....muchpeace, jerry
I agree....kiss, hug, and love each other well....teach your children well! There is hope in this younger generation. My daughter and son-in-law are living the life and embracing love and peace. Just as we were, they are harrassed for their dreaded hair, their appearance, and their determination to raise their children gently and naturally. Their determination to live naturally and speak out for peace and justice is strong, and I have hope that the gentle spirit that was awakened in us in the 60's has been passed to the next generation.
Again thanks older hippies you are such a help in this followers world. I too have dreads that is soo kool. do help us younger ones in finding our streng to stand togeather for peace.
well thank you good to know there ARE some real hippies here. :H seems like the young ones are just as angry and anti-me as the people i grew up with (listening to jefferson airplane to cheer me up! )
just checking in on my post. i met some mock hippies not to long ago, it made me sad to see them in their tie die laughing about how your not a hippy if your not a stoner. sniff* o well. anyone watch the pbs special onthe 60's?
Hey Natural, Yeah I saw that '60's special. I'd forgotton alot of the sh-t that went down. Lived through it though; brought back lots of memories. You know I read they had machine guns mounted on the White House roof for awhile? It was a world wide revolution..well. BTW The original "hippies" did do drugs, at least all the ones I ever ran into. That was one of the signs.
and that means....what? you're 15, what do you know? Sorry if I'm ignorant, I don't know where you're coming from, to use an old expression. Maybe i missed a post or something.
