    Ok well if you dont know what it is, Lobo is a new channel being launched by MTV networks June 30th, it will be (quoting rolling stone here) "Basic cable's first 24/7 gay network"
    They plan to show movies, documentaries, reality shows, a wedding planning show,and what they are calling a "gay sex and the city" called Noah's arc....
    What I want to know is what you guys think of this?
    Think it is a good idea? Bad idea? Waste of time? Something you've been waiting for?
    Just wanting another opinion on the idea
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Personally I dont really think this is the smartest thing to do...how can you have a tv network aimed at such a wide variety of people? It is one thing when you have a network for a certain age group, or even race..those people dont have one thing in common..but when the thing in common is you sexuality I think it makes it nearly impossible to create 24 hours worth of programming like that...
    here is how rs put it and I think it is said best:
    "So can one network appeal to both lipstick and butch lesbianss, trannies and leathermen?"
    I dont think so but that is just my opinion
    ...what do you all think?
    I think its a good idea, soon to be currupted. All the shows on televison now only show straight couples and straight relationships. I would rather it be spread out across all channels, but this will have to do.
    Once upon a time all TV networks were aimed at the widest possible variety of people. I'm talking about networks like ABC, CBS and NBC in the United States. I don't think there's any network that could come up with 24 hours of programming that I'd be interested in, but I'd certainly check it out if it is available on my local cable system.
    I agree,I will be checking it out and I'm sure that there will be somehting interesting on there..I mean dont get me wrong I think it is great that they are making the effort...it is wonderful but I just wonder if it is going to end up catering to stereotypes with its program choices
    I dunno. Sounds like a way to focus on the stereotypes that everyone has of us. I might get shot down for saying this, but there's more to our lives than being gay. I mean, what does it mean to be gay? It means I like someone of the same gender. It doesn't mean I like to dress fancy, talk with a lisp, listen to Erasure or Rufus Wainright, or eat quiche. Actually, I kinda like quiche, but that's beside the point.
    Too many people think that just because one is gay, it means they live a certain lifestyle with "gay" music, "gay" clothing, "gay" this, "gay" that. I'm too much of an individual for that. I like boys. I like girls. I like bungy jumping. I like poker. I like weed. I like weed. I like weed. I like travelling. I like weed.
    So, what would this gay channel offer someone like me? Queer poker? unnecessary. That's an activity that knows no gender, no preference, etc. But I'm all for integration as opposed to segregation. Something that several areas and gay communities seem to have forgotten over time.
    I'll go ahead and check out the channel as I might be suprised at what it has to offer. But I have a feeling that it will do more damage than good in the long run.
    hmmm....seems like one of those things that start off with a wide range of people watching (yeah wide, everyone will watch it at first just to see what the fuse is about) and then it'll be taken over by some totally different group of people, probably the "I'm not gay but aren't they cute?" crowd and because of that most of the shows will probably start out good enough and then run steadily downhill from there.
    It'd probably be better if they just spread it out over many channels instead of just one.
