I second this. The original site is Elkins. That is where I'm going.

peaceband thats what i was thinking up untill a momment ago when i read the article posted in the new thread "richwood welcomes rainbow"
which all sounded really good like the media sometimes does but when i resd the quote by glowing feather st the bottom saying we would habe moved even if we wernt asked i'd have to agree the newest site is a good compromize, perhaps hhb or someone can clarify this..
is this richwood site yet another new compromise between elkins & the site the fs tried pushing on us? & if so what if any issues are there? this isnt the 1 with the road through main meadow & swampland am i correct?

i guess my point is peacebandchick, although we dont want to be moved by fs, perhaps there are legitimate reasons we would want to choose an alternate site ourselves, & i wouldnt say i'm headed to any 1 site till i got there & found out the exact situation
whatever we do, lets all end up in 1 place cause i'd love to meet ya all

    Hey all,
I have got 60 acres of camping near Seneca Rocks, WV.
If anyone needs a place to camp in the meantime.
    Freash water...Hot outside shower...beautiful views...
    And of course....No Law enforcement...
PM me if you need a place to stop over....

There are many back doors to the Glady Fork site in Elkins....
There is one back door to the stip mine site...

There is no back door to the cranberry site... and it is closest to the LEO base camp....With a road going right through it.....
A week with the feds..? I dont know...?

    So where is everyone going????

Because I want to meet everyone also!!!!

I am definately interested in your invitation. However, I have a few questions. On my map, Seneca Rocks is a rec area. Is this Private land? if so, who owns it? Do you live there? Having a place to go that is safe might come in handy, especially since I do not know exactly what to expect when I get to WV, all I know is there's lots of cops and some of them sound rather agressive. Let me know if the invite is legit and where your land is, I'm coming to WV even if I'm a bit nervous about what I have heard about the scene so far. I have been planning on driving in from CO and coming through Charleston to Elkins to the site. Unless I hear that things have stabilized elsewhere, I'm still heading to Elkins and then onto the Sully Rd/Lower Glady site.

Also, since you are a local, what is going on? have you been to the site (Sully/Glady) or the alternate (Cranberry)? How many folks have you seen in the area?

Hey folks, from all we've read, the Cranberry site was picked by the FS (source-Hawker), the kitchens are going in uphill from the water sources, and is the approved permit site. Some folks would prefer to hold the ground in Elkins, but there is a lot of pressure, not only from the FS (who are still closely monitoring the Elkins site) but also from the kitchens because time is short and they need to get set up and running.
It seems that this year, what's been done is done; though support for those who recieved tickets would be a good thing-think the court date is the 28 (?).
our advise would be to go to Cranberry and Gather; but if you are as bummed as we are about the permits these last few years, let your voice be heard.

where is the feather? where are the cpuncils? or is each site having theyre own council as well as possibly some at scattered camps? if we had to i'd even suggest 1 unified council right on the fs base until 1 unified descision is reached or the fs gets sick of tripping over us & lets us do our thing

The Sully Rd/Lower Glady site sounds like the best from everything that I have heard so far. Although being in CO, all the information that I know is really hear-say. I like the idea of hiking in, and gathering at the Sully Rd/Lower Glady by going around the roadblock. MY only problem is that I am driving out to WV and I will need someplace safe to park in order to hike in.

If I recall the story, in '72 there was quite the mass hike from where everyone was camping to the mountain that everyone was praying around on the 4th.

Soaring Eagle, I like your idea. Might be a bit tough to have a council with the FS yelling at us for being all up in their space. But it's that kind of thing that might throw them off balance, as we are being thrown off balance by them. Regardless of where, I think that a unified council is a very good idea. Not on any of the current sites, though.

Something I've always argued for is that Rainbows should consider holding their gatherings not in the national parks but on private land. I think that this would virtually eliminate the worry about some of the problems that have encurred by gathering on public land. If I go, this would be my first gathering.

thats the way the international gatherings are, since they have no public lands, however this opens the landowner up to liability fr anything that may happen.
