He runs the sprinklers even when it's raining. My fiance will go and disconnect them, but the landlord just keeps doing it! Isn't it illegal to run your sprinklers 24-7 when its raining?!?
Last summer there were laws in New York against using too much water since we were in a drought and all, but I don't think Florida is at any shortage of clean water. I don't think it's too much of a problem.
Really he isn't wasting water. Water comes from the ground so it is only natural that it goes back there. Wasting money on the other hand...
He may not be wasting water, but he is wasting the processing required to make it drinkable water. Surely you don't mean that the sprinklers are on literaly 24-7, how much does he actualy water?
I don't know if you noticed this or not, but we are in a huge fucking drought. Our drought index is at 4(today). A week ago, it was at 6, which is two inches away from drought conditions. Ridiculous. Under these conditions, he has to water every day to keep his grass alive.
The sprinklers come on everyday at 6 PM and don't go off until 6 AM. This is rain or shine or cold or hot.
Twelve hours of sprinkling?!? You might want to take a picture of the sidewalk and show him how much water (money) he is pouring into the storm drains.
In Pittsburgh, we had no rationing laws, at all... Anyone could water, all they wanted, any time... Some cities have different rules than others... Water rationing isn't a federal law, as far as I know. Unethical? Perhaps... Illegal? Might not be...
contact your water department, tell them what's up. If you have watering restrictions, landlord could be fined. You can also let the landlord know the amount of time the sprinklers are on, perhaps the programming is messed up. Are you in an apartment complex or a house? If a complex, the owner (who might not be the manager) should know. in their terms, they are wasting MONEY. Also it could be watewater/greywater, which sort of lessens the evilness of using so much.
as a landlord (no im not evil, i promise) i should let ya know that at my properties, we use wells to water lawn and for the hoses etc.. Its free that way, no municipalites taxing ya, and there is no wasted wayter, its ground water (nonpotable) and returns to earth when there is too much being used. on the other hand, it is most likely that the manager is unaware of the time it is running. Think about it, i dont get to my properties till about 10, then i leave about 4, i dont live at any my apartments, so i dont see what happens "after-hours", so they probably dont notice and might not really care, but if it was brought to thier attention, and eplained to them that 12 hours in the same place is creating water on the sidewalks/walkways and that the other day ur child slipped in the water, the landlord might take notice, suggest that they cut sprinkler time from 12-5, thats what i do, and not all at the same place, 60-90 minutes of water is all that is needed for most lawn lawns, 3-4 days aweek in summer time, less in winter.Peace Luv & Pot
Yeah, but we(south floridians) all run off the the biscayne aquifer, which is running very low, which is why we have the aquifer groundwater storage and recovery system(ARS). Basicly, when biscayne gets really full, wells syphon(sp) some off and pump the water to deeper wells, far below biscayne. Later, when the aquifer runs dry, they pump water back into the main aquifer, so people and the everglades(which cleans alot of our ground water) can have water. So it's still really not good, because he's (the threadposter's landlord) is using up too much good ground water.
is your aquifer rechargeable or not? THe Arapahoe/Dawson/Denver/ Larimie Fox Hills, where my area gets its groundwater are not rechargeable.
