Anarchy And College

Can you be a true anarchist and go to college? I have some freinds who claim to be anarchists but they either go to college or want to go to college. They say their going because they want to learn. They also say that communes are stupid because there is so much that needs to be done here. They say that nothing gets done or no direct action takes place at communes such as east wind. They also use cell phones and ride in cars or own cars themselves. Can you guys please explain to me what an anarchist is like or explain to me what a anarchist is. Also what do you think about my freinds who claim to be anarchist.

 

I say no.

Anarchy is just the new fad, anyway. Most people who claim to be anarchist buy their lunch at burger king, vote for democrats, and buy their clothes at the gap.

Anarchy is the absence of political authority and common standard/purpose.

All education in Civilization is individuation and objectification; object/subject separation, the separation of the knower from the known.

Only they embrace the surge of rising and falling seas, or merge bareback into the stallion charging across the endless seas of grass.

Only their barefeet can race the stags through the waking forest, and, with knife raised, leap from the high ledge without hesitation.

Only they come into this earth birthed by the breaching whales, nursed by the stormy rains, and kissed by the faces of the many moons.

That's an experience the Civilized and the Educated will never have.
Except maybe a few brief and fleeting moments of LSD, or the Kundalini.

It's too late for you.
You might as well go to college, be a good institutionalized anarchist, and some day, with enough direct action, you may even be able to simulate Anarchy the way a well educated mortician can make a corpse simulate life.

 

Why go to college in the first place?

the sad thing is those who often push for anrachry the hardest are those that would do very poorly if it was inplace, Like a 5'2 slim girl who was very "Angasity" when my friend and i where talking aobut this in public and she came up to express her veiws, with out realizing, she whould of been passed around more than a bag of oreos, and that no her mustang driving boyfriend couldent save her from gang rapists. Needless to say she dident take kindly to two long hairs pointing this out

I went to college. I consider myself an anarchist. Anarchists share one rule:

"No person or persons shall have power over any other person or persons."

Quite synonymous with "Peace and Love".

I went to college to gain a more diverse outlook as well as education. You seriously think that I'd have any real insight into the world if I never went to college and stayed in the Republican bastion of New York ( read: Dutchess County )?

Those who say anarchy is lawlessness and hate are wrong. Those who say it can't happen are deathly afraid of responsibility, both personal and communal.

This "peace & love" thing has become too ideal. But guess what... people make stupid decisions with or without laws. Not everyone is going to be "peaceful" in this world. Anarchy won't work. Get over it.

The Zapatistas in Mexico have free schools, hospitals, infrastructure due to mutual organization, sans gov't. They take responsibility for their fate. We do not. We are totally apathetic.

Natives here did it quite well before a young U.S.A. introduced the first example of biological warfare. Again, true freedom could not be tolerated.

You don't want government. You want others to be governed according to your own "morals", believing that everyone will become a mass murderer without them.

people are so idiotic that they assume in an anarchist society they can do whatever they want with no reprecusions for their actions. That's not what anarchy is. If you do things considered morally wrong by society there are still ways society can deal with these individuals WITHOUT a government. People are so used to living with a government that they feel it is necessary, when in reality it isn't. Anarchists dont believe in what they do so they can go looting, they realize that humanity is intelligent enough to handle murderers and rapists on their own and that they dont need a powerful centralized government to look after them and take care of them.

Anarachists don't want anarchy so they can commit violent crimes.. They want anarchy because they want to abolish the war machine which is government. They want anarchy because they want to HELP people not destroy them.

anarchy isn't complete chaos, and lawlessness... anarchy is the lack of government... but still, murderers will be delt with, rapists will be delt with... you dont NEED a government to handle those people. In fact, you don't need a government for anything. Give me one reason we need a government.

This is just another ignorant common misconception of anarchy. People work together simulatenously... there IS people helping eachother... society helps one another. People cant just rape and kill everyone they want, if they did that they'd be shot down faster than I can blow myself... and the truth is most people would never do th ose things int he first place, with or without a government... and those who want to kill and rape do it whether or not there is a law against it or a government after them... most rapists and murderers admit to their crimes and tell the police they'd do it again... having laws and governments does not detur crime... people will do what they want REGARDLESS of government and laws... that is the truth about life.

People have been suckered in by years and years of government oppression and years and years of having their minds shaped by the powers that own government/media outlets. Theyve spread misconception about Anarchy, Communism, anything that threatens the existance of the Government and the existance of their wealth.... they've got some people to believe that we actually need a government.
Which is entirely false.

Anarchists are by far the most ORGANIZED and UNIFIED political movement in existance to this day. There are so many anarchist organizations all over the united states and all over the world... there is always at least one if not more local anarchist groups for just about any medium to large sized city.

That's my post for this epoche.

Ok, that may be true. However, I was picturing anarchy within the context of today's American culture. Would it actually work out? By now, the mainstream part of American society (or most of it) has already been conditioned to have a yearning to get ahead of everyone else. This would obviously include stealing, cheating, lying, etc. Not only that, but there's also the other side of the spectrum where some people are just too lazy to work in order to take care of themselves (this society also has its share of free-loaders). I honestly don't think a lot of Americans would be ready to take that much responsibility as the Zapatistas do.

Not everyone will turn into a mass murderer, but people will eventually have to learn how to fend for themselves. Besides, there are already murderers who are loose on the streets; abolishing goverment won't make them go away. And if anarchy was in place, you might as well learn how to do a karate chop if you don't want to die first. Survival of the fittest.

 

what people advertise anarchy as and what it really is are two totally different things

who protects your little commune from the guy who stole the tank from the national guard base?

no one, you protect yourselves, scatter or die

you are just offering your opinion on what it would be like, you don't know at all.

Just because there is no government does not mean there is no organization or group to fend off crazy people and murderers...even ones who manage to steal tanks from the local army base *which would be nonexistant*.
The government doesn't give us protection, it runs the groups who are supposed to protect us (the police) but it doesn't mean that without a government there would be no people risking their lives to protect others and get rid of murderers. The government just makes it so only IT is allowed to do so... You arent fending for yourself, people will still be there to help you and protect you... ultimately it isnt the government nowndays that is protecting us, it is the PEOPLE... the government just rules these people, but it doesnt mean that a government is necessary... not at all.

That is just more BS... you think that with the collapse of the government no one would look after nuclear silos? we'd just sit with our finger up our ass at home while no one is guarding the nuke silos? That makes no logical sense...

 

OK, so the main argument is that "anarchy won't work because there will always be evil people." Evil for this purpose I am understanding as greedy/murderous.

Ever see "Gandhi"? I recommend it, since some of his teachings are the foundation of what I am about to say...

Heirarchy is a pyramid scheme. Powerful on top...yadda, yadda...you get the idea. So let's say that the bottom half, those totally not in charge, say "Screw this", and ignore the top half. Let's say the top half has the means to totally eradicate the bottom half. All out slaughter. The pyramid still has a base, and ironically, it is those who were in charge who are the "nouveau persecuted".

If all these greedy murderous people still think organizing themselves in a heirarchy is being "civilized", they will all have their day at the bottom. One could only hope they would eventually realize the err of their ways.

You can keep being a nay-sayer, but unless you believe in a complete change in the way people treat each other, regardless of consequence, how can you refer to yourself as progressive/hippy/liberal?

Anarchy is what happens in the savannas of africa, the jungles of the congo, etc. Lion prides, gorrilla clans... The weak may be killed by another pride, babies may be killed by jealous alpha males, but in the end the species continues its survival. The pride offers protection for itself. Similar to primitive human tribes. Now, with globalization and massive fast transportation and a very complex civilization and economy, the tribes, prides, etc. must form a more complex organized infrastructure and/or join in partnership with each other to protect itself from other tribes and sustain its existance. Which is all too familiar to todays global nationalities and governments. Don't you think civilization today as we know it has made a most natural progression to what it is? This is reality! This is the natural result of thousands of years of humanity. The only way to force anarchy is for a group of anarchists to rise up, take over the world and force this way of living on all peoples. Hence, wars will take place. If the anarchists win they will instill their ways on the people whether willing or not (hence a government is formed). This is history, this is the way the world wars have started and why they continue!!! I say there can never be anarchy in the truest sence of the word! I say, live or die by your own ideals or try to find your own peace and harmony with reality as we know it.

Why do all anarchists who go or want to go to college say that? You are just being taught the lies of the institution as well as contributing to it. College isn't somthing you have to do. Albany Goth I bet you are using that degree that you earned or will be using it. You can say that you just went to college to learn but you also need to say you went to get a job. Also you are spending thousands of dollars to "learn" You can read books and and study yourselve instead of wasting all your money on college and being taught lies.
