i do agree that the allman brothers rock i listen to my dads old records from time to time and there are a few allman brothers in there
I once saw them when Duane was still alive play for three hours in 90+ degree heat and 80+% humidity and only take two twenty minute breaks. Needless to say musically they were near perfect. Other than seeing Santana in 1969 in Germany this was the most impressive musical performance I can ever remember witnessing.
the anthology is on my list, near the top tough to beat the original line-up, but their touring band today with Derek Trucks and guest Warren Haynes is pretty awesome I'm a Dickey Betts fan, though, and Duane's slide work is amazing
This is the year of the ABB!! Saw them a couple of times last year. The new lineup with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks is awesome!!
The Allman Brothers are a terrific band. Their music is excellent, particularly the songs they put out while Duane was still alive.
my friend's mom is about to marry Dickey, I should have became closer with her so she would invite me over and I could get his autograph or picture or what not! She lives like 3 streets over and goes to the same bus stop as me. She doesn't even realize the significance of the allman brothers! He's offered to give her stuff that the rock and roll hall of fame wanted but he wouldnt give them ie - a guitar. She didnt want it! If that was my mom things would be a lot different!
I love the Allman Brothers. I never will forget the first time I saw them. They played at my college when I was a freshman. We all dropped a hit of Mescaline and took a quilt to the gym for the show as usual. No chairs, just the quilt. It was called Fillmore seating because that was the way that the seating was at the Fillmore West in California. I was right up front, under Dickey Betts. They were out of this world. They also played at a festival in NC called "Love Valley". It was at the same time as Woodstock, I think the same weekend. Even had an OD tent. Well, most all outdoor concerts at that time had an OD Tent for people that ODd. A smokescreen came up and when the smoke cleared the brothers were all on stage nakid - no kidding. They played Whipping Post, the smoke came back up and when it cleared they were all dressed. I will never forget the night Duane was killed. I was at a concert, it was Leon Russell. Mandrake opened and the lead singer said for everyone to say a prayer for Duane. It didn't hit me that anything was wrong with Duane, but I found out he was dead the next day. What a sad day, the day that Duane Allman died, it hit me harder than all of the other deaths of that time period. I loved Duane Allman. Loved the Allman Brothers. Truly one of the greatest Rock-And-Roll bands of all time!
i saw them for my first concert when i was in the 4th grade, my parents took me and i fell in love =)
I grew up in Alaska. Being in Alaska is great if you grew up down here and just want to get away. But to grow up there is about more than getting tired of the place, it becomes a suffocating exercise in sensory deprivation. In the interior of the state there is no rock and roll, no record stores, no night clubs, no music stores, no musicians, no beaches, no places to just hang out with ones peers and catch up on the local buzz, no Mc Donalds, no taco stands, no tv, no radio stations, no where to skateboard, no NOTHING. Worse still is the fact that if you grow up there the only release is to wander off in a daydream that is fueled by a persistant reality. Because that place is all you have ever known you don't even know what it is that you miss so much. But your spirit constantly reminds you that you most certainly are longing for something. One day our local store owner recieved with his weekly inventory re-supply a copy of the Allman Brothers at Fillmore East. Typical of the local mind set he gave it one look , and then unable comprehend what this album be about , he promptly tossed it into the trash. Luckiest day of my life. I just happened to be there and although I had never heard of The Allman Brothers one glance at the cover cut through my ignorance with the message that "These people enjoyed a lifestyle that featured much broader horizons then I cold imagine. I took the album home, I borrowed a record player and listened to it. As I sat there and listened to Stormy Monday for the first time, I knew I was leaving. And less than a week later I caught the first thing smoking to California. I love it here. I love the life, and I love the people. There is not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars for exposing me to the beautiful music of brother Duane Allman.
