I have a few un-answered questions, stuff i could research but what the hell .

Do you use nutes with hydro, soil, organic, or all of above? What are nutes anyways? those bottles with colored liquid?

I dont know what to use, mylar or just have the walls a reflective white, or the poly stuff that reflects 90% of light. I know mylar is suppost to reflect 98%, but is it that much of a difference? I personally like the white rather than the mylar, it looks cleaner to me.

Do high pressure sodium and metal halide light systems use a mass amount of energy where your hurting when you have to pay the utility bills? How many plants will a 1000w switchable hps/mh system cover?

    thanks for your time

-Plants, just like all living things, need food (fertilizers/nutrients). These come in liquids and podwers. Quality potting soil comes with all sorts of amendments, like bat shit, seaweed, worm castings, etc.
-If your good at math, determine how much a light costs to run by looking at your elect. bill. Determine what you are charged per Kw/h (kilowatt hour, how much a 1,000-watt light uses in 1 hour). Where I live it's 20 cents. Figure the light will be on non-stop for the first 6 weeks, then 12/12 for 2 months.
-Walls painted with flat white paint are ok.
-You don't determine how many plants a light will "cover". You figure out how many sq/ft it will effectively light. Rule of thumb--50 watts HPS per sq/ft. A 1,000-watt light would effectively cover a space 4' x 5'.
I'd suggest you start on a smaller scale. Get a 400-watt set-up in a space slightly smaller than 3' x 3'. Put in 9 plants in 1-gal. containers. Provide quality potting soil, good nutrients, excellent ventilation and lots of TLC.
After 6 weeks, switch the light to 12/12 and toss the males as soon as they express sex. After 2 months of 12/12 you'll have a harvest.

the female flower is the one that buds up, the male doesn't. if you keep a male in with your females and the male pollinates any of the females - the females will work on creating seeds instead of weed, and you can't smoke seeds! ;) :)
