off agr as usuall just got a call from the new site. xxx is there with what's left of the water pipe, and CALM folks are also there. While some folks have followed Arjay to the strip mine site, this is a not the ICT recommended site, this was found by Rainbows. Right now there are very few people at the new site, and they want more... I was told (till I get better directions) to tell folks to go to the Cranberry Mountain visitors center at the junction of scenic highway 150 & highway 55. That spot appears to be here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=cranberry+glade+west+virginia&ll=38.192759,-80 .280411&sll=38.125942,-80.244578&spn=0.754270,0.836334&sspn=0.377567,0.41816 7&hl=en Directions from Elkins are: http://maps.google.com/maps?spn=1.501926,1.672668&saddr=elkins+west+virginia &daddr=hillsboro+west+virginia&hl=en Head east from 3rd St - go 0.1 mi 2. Turn right at Randolph Ave - go 0.6 mi 3. Bear right at US-219 S/US-250 S - go 5.5 mi 4. Continue on US-219/US-250 - go 70 mi 5. Turn right at JM McNeel Rd - go 0.9 mi It is not obvious what the ICT reaction will be to this new site, since it is unpermitted. Earlier they had said the strip mine was the only site they would allow without a permit, so I guess we'll found out what's going to happen at the new site over the next 24 hours. Sorry if any of these directions are off, but since so many people are in limbo, I wanted to get them out now while the info gets refined. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- MY 2 CENTS,, just got back from katuah solstice,, an consensus is there aint no consensus on this years national..(a big mess) everything is very sketchie on whats goin on no matter who ya ask,,one thing seems sure,(but who knows), the origional site aint gonna happen.. (rumor) no matter what has been said about strength in numbers come home etc.. (an im guilty of encouragin that,,my bad..) the folks there are overwhelmed low on food and begining to get discouraged.. from what i hear is everyone is best settin an waitin on the final word at the moment, unless your up for a big movie.. note: the above sites are just RUMOR!!!!!!!!!!! luv~n~lite
This Being Pushed Around By The Forest Serviced Is Nothing New, I Say Hold The Ground, And Get Lawyers There Now, Don't Say Whats The Use. What About A New Site, That Has Happen Before As Well. Thanks For The Info! I'm Praying This All Works Out. Where's The Lawyers.
ok,, those directions are posted on welcomehome,, so it seems there gonna try the above site unpermited.. that still means stay tuned till we can get into a site and hold it.. folks up there got enough on there plates whithout havin to worry about feeding and controling the masses.. earthling,,holding ground is great if ya are on the land,,most never made it there.. i do know the lawyers are involved,,however look at the date on the calender,,times a waistin an the wheels of babylon move slow.. luv n lite...
Hey family.. I am very sad about this. It makes me ashamed to live so close to West Virginia.. nothing against people who live there.. It would have probably been worse if it was held in my state. I'm just ashamed, none the less. I guess overall, not just with the forest rangers in west virginia, but the sitation all together. The first time in 30 some years a rainbow gathering was shut down? Amazing, and saddening it was so close to me. As of now, if those directions are correct, that puts me slightly more than an hour away. Closer than Elkins by a far, but that doesn't make it any better for me. This should not have happened, how can they justify making people sick? I don't understand, I really don't. This is only my second gathering, and the first was a life changing event for me, and I've wanted to go for so long, and I was very happy it was so close when I first heard rumours of west virginia.. now I wonder. I could leave now and be there before dark, but quite frankly.. I'm afraid. I admire the people who are there now and wish them strength. I could not leave before the 26th anyways, as that's my last day of work.. and although I know that's a sad reason not to go home, it's how things are right now. All this makes me want to go there now though, although I know it's best for probaby everyone if I don't. I feel pretty helpless really, being so close but unsure of what to do. All this talk of it being where the girls were killed in 1980, and on welcomehome.org they said the pocahontas county gathering was the only with gunshots around it, well, that scares me, although I can only have faith that I'll be ok, as well as everyone else. We're strong and we'll be ok, we just need to believe that.
updated info i just got from someone on site & on banking council is that although bank is still trying to figure out exactly where the gathering will be, they still recommend going to the elkins site whch is beautiful & the people are really kind. so far theres no definate plans to go to another site however it is still being discussed. there azre a number of people at the holding camp waiting to reach critical mass i supose, and they want more..it might be gopod if you go early to try to bring food/water/supplies & if you go early be prepared to work or council with fs & leos to get things ready in time. everything will work out fine in the end & it will be a great gathering. so dont ya worryh but the rocky start, just enjoy the ride. & once swgain, i know i mention it in every post, but i'm getting desperate..lol i still need a ride from philly so send me a pm or email or i put my # in another post i think.
I just got a call from a friend on his way. He had called from Marlington to let ask if I had heard the new directions. So far he say things are good. The locals he say have been really nice, and the cops and all even are really nice (although he was speaking of elkins about the cops, he hasn't got into the gathering yet, obviously). But, so far so good he says. I feel more assured just hearing from someone who's been through Elkins and all.
from rob on agr: I just got an interesting message from some folks I know that went to the Cranberry Glade site this afternoon, and nobody was there... - rob -
would that be from rob savoy? the info i got was from someone, not sure who exactly, but he/she is on the banking council & from what i hear everyhone is still going to elkinds as planned, alternates are being discussed, but nothing definate yet. & as for now people should just go to the holding camp most likely they just want to delay the flood., make things more dificult, & just be an annoyance. when you get there whenever that may be, expect to contribute in some way, dig a shitter, build a bridge, help with parking or setting up kitchens, because theyre pushing around seed camp & making it hard to get things going expect there to be alot of things that need to be done, so if you just want to go & bliss wait till close o the 1st, but if you want to be a part of making it happen by all means go soon as u can..& take me with you (i'm packing as we speak so i'll be ready to go soon as some kind soul shows up at my door) ( pete.golden@verizon.net iriesoaringeagle@hotmail.com or anything@phillyrainbowfamily.org ) if youy do go early, it certainly would bea good idea to show up with enough food & water for yourself to last till the 1s, i doubt things arethat desperate there but it certainly wouldnt hurt, & can only help. i think possibly the bank council hasnt set up main suply yet since the actual site is still in question, but i would imagine a final descision should happen in the next 3 das at the most..after that it will be impossible to logisticaly change sites.
i'm sure that is exactly what is going on onsite, i really can't see the blocade lasting more then a couple more days, especialy since i beleive after the texas fiasco there was a supreme or at least a higher courts ruling that they could not block the flow of supplies into the site, & could not block shuttle access any speculation on here about whayts going on onsite is simply speculation & rumor, so as always ignore all rumors of cancelation (which incluedes in my mind rumors of a change of site) untill you get on site & find out 1st hand what the situation is. and if your near there, please go to the holding camp or whereever flks are, sit in on council & let all us in limbo know what the real situation is. and once again i still needa ride from philly..lol i have a feeling it will happen on the site originaly chosen & wont be moved, but since i'm sitting at home instead of at the councils i cant even guess what might really happen.
Hi everyone it has been so bust here havn't had time to post.Just to let know a caravan went down to Cranberry yesterday afternoon and alot of folks are headed there today(me included) . I spoke with Badger (a scout) last evening it is a go we are cleaning up the ares where people have camped here and going home I think the water pipes will be taken care of some is hauling the trailer down to Cranberry today. It has been a difficult scene but the energy is high here and lots of love. loving you, jahmai
I hate to hear that Home had to give into the man and move but I'm also glad to hear that we are abel to get something solved. I read that a large ne-nazi compuond was in nearby Hillsborro?? Sounds like a whole different type of locales then Elkins. Anybody having to spend any money along the way (gas, food, etc) should try to do it in Elkins to show we appericate there support.
Where the Gathering will be in 2005 This year the annual North American Rainbow Gathering (hence referred to as the Gathering) will be in West Virginia from July 1 - July 7. Ignore all rumors of cancellation or organization! Live Lightly with the Land and People! Gathering Directions Word from the site is that there was a council on June 18, and that some folks have decided to move to another site at Cranberry Glade Botanical Area, which was recommended by the Forest Service. A permit has been applied for for that location, and because the USFS recommended it, there is a strong chance it will be excepted. This is about 70 miles or so from the existing site near Elkins that the Forest Service shut down yesterday. Directions as I was told are to go to the Cranberry Mountain Visitors Center, and then go about 6 miles to the junction of scenic highway 150 and highway 55. That spot appears to be here. Anyway, Kiddie Village has moved to the new site, and what's left of the water system (The Incident Command Team stole a lot of it the other day) and CALM are already there trying to get setup. Yes, the Forest Service is helping make sure everyone gets sick by removing our ability to produce clean water. It's a sad day in Rainbow Land. After 33 years, the Federal Goverment has suceeded in shutting down a Rainbow Gathering through massive harrasment and ticketing. I'm sure they're pleased with themselves. Our constitutional right to peaceable assembly on public land is now gone along with many of our other civil rights. It's obvious that peaceful people aren't desired by a goverment that's stated you are either with us, or you are the enemy to be eliminated... Why are we promoting freedom in other countries and we can't promote it here at home for US citizens ? For those that want to help preserve freedom for US citizens in our own country to assemble peaceably please contact the West Virginia Congressional Representatives, a West Virginia Newspaper, or a West Virginia TV Station and let your views be heard. Since there are still people at the Elkins area site, equipment, friends, etc... I figured I should keep those directions up for people that need to go there. From Elkins, WV, take 33 east past Bowden to Alpena (approx.13 mi). At the Alpena Lodge & Cafe (the only thing t here) take a left (north) up County Rd. 12, also known as Galdwin Rd and CR26 in some areas. CR12 goes thru the countryside and dives down toward the Glady Fork (approx 5 mi). At the bottom of the hill, just before CR12 crosses the Glady Fork River & turns into CR10-Sully Rd, take a hard (120%) left on to FR 162, which is Bus Village. Go to the gated end of Bus Village (FR162). Just beyond the gate is a meadow on the left. At the back right of this meadow is Easy Street, a gentle grassy ancient railroad bed, which goes off to the left. Follow Easy Street up to Main Trail and take a right to Main Circle, which is the third meadow on the trail. From the East, from Harrisonburg, VA take 33 west into Wavy past Franklin, WV and Seneca Rocks. Stay on US 33 past Wymer to Alpena, take a right on CR12 and follow the above. An area map is here. Personally, I know that many of us long-time Rainbows all too well remember the two women who were brutally murdered on their way to the 1980 gathering in Pocahontas county. That was an interesting gathering, it's the only one I've ever been too where there were gunshots around the camp. Some of us are going to find it difficult to return. DREAMER
My peeve about Pocahontas county is that the town of Hillsboro, which is not far from Cranberry mountain, is home to the National Alliance.
Maybe there is a reason the the gathering is so close to the National Alliance. Maybe we have been sent to show them lots of love. Maybe we can show them a different way. Although I'v never been to a gathering my understanding (which could be wrong) is that the purpose is to pray and gather for peace and enlightment. What better place to spread peace then around some hatered mo-fos. Besides my experince with neo-nazis is that they mostlly just want to spread propaganda. Lets spread our own knowledge and hope we can change some hearts.
