I always thought that the one thing that held all hippies together in the same breed was love. With this site, we have the music and the politics and the sex and the art, etc., but what are your views on love, unromantic love? I love it.
Compassion is humanities greatest virtue; only by sticking together will we ever truly grow and prosper. That is the only thing I see as nearly absolute.
Have any of you ever experienced it, that is to say, felt it or sent it to someone? I read this book (I'll admit, it was a work of fiction), where the main characters transferred love to each other and called this a "love zap". I tried it with my best friend, and it was mind-blowing. We were on this high for at least 48 hours. "High on a mountain of love". Anyway, have any of you tried this?
eh? If nobody loved anything or anyone everyone would be miserable and bored. Society is created by peoples love for doing things and motivated often by the people they love and who love them.. This is what I meant.
Is there such a thing? this is one dictionary.com definition of romantic: "Displaying, expressive of, or conducive to love" I think "love" is one of the most difficult things to truely define. However, something that I think is an awesome experience that doesn't happen too often is when a group of people get together to hang out who truely love one another (not refering to an orgy). Hence, an epitome of a hippy gathering!
Exactly! I'd love to do that...it sounds fantastic. Orgies sound fun too, though, I must admit. I digress. I think there are all sorts of love, and romantic love is just one of them. By unromantic love, I mean the difference between loving and being in love, and I refer to the loving. Has anyone else "zapped", though? I think this is the hippy gathering one of you was referring to.
Love and compassion are two different things. Compassion is caring for someone, love is caring for someone intimately. Society would exist without love, but not compassion; even though it would be without love, it would be functionable. I mean, it might not be so welcoming, but love doesn't make society. But I do agree that it wouldn't be the most ideal world to live in.
:H I have been in love a few times but it always will go BUST and most of the time I am ok with it because I know just like everything else in life it comes and goes. but I love when that warm feeling when you know that you are loved and are loving to some one.
there is love in everything, everyone. You never know where love will take you but thats what its all about. you need love to survive, anyone who denies that can eat shit. I know that its hard, but even loving someone who may never love you back is just another way of completing yourself.
i've always been able to love most people. the first four-letter word i learned to spell was love, and in stead of writing 'the end' at the end of stuff, like toddlers do, i wrote 'i love you.' the other kind of love, the one night stand kind, i used to be all for, you know free love, but i've found that for me at least, it does more harm than good. so no more free love for nikki. peace and love, nikki lou
i still stand by my point. if you didnt love anything you would have no reason to live. love drives us. whether it drives you to work so that you can afford material things so you can create art or music, that is love. or loving a person. or loving nature, or simply loving yourself.. compassion is not love, that is kindness. or well, compassion. i cant believe this thread is still going. haha
