hello my name is melanie, this will be my first post in the protest forum. i just wanted to type a newsclipping that i read, that made my cry, and i hope makes others outraged
the clipping is a diary excerpt written by Animals Asia founder Jill Robinson that describes the terrible state Fourex the Bear was in, before she died (a bear that was rescued from a bile farm in China)
Even in the few years she would have spent on the farm she knew nothing but torture and fear-her jaw was broken, one of her canines was grotesquely growing out the side of her gum, her back right paw was missing, her front right paw was swollen to twice its size, infected and oozing with pus, her other two pads were badly hyperkaratotic (excess skin growth) from years of not being able to stand on solid ground, she was painfully thin with atrophy, her free drip site-yes the technique that farmers call "humane"- was surrounded by a mass of scar tissue and hernias. And when Gail (the veterinary surgeon) opened her up we were sick to our stomaches. Inside through all of the fluid build up and organ adhesions, was the terrible evidence of bile peritonitis which had invaded its deadly way through her stomache, liver and small intestine. Everyone from bear workers, to administration staff, was disgusted and in tears, and we could only bury her with her name, with toys she never had a chance to play with, and an apology for our species, the only atom of respect she has ever known. RIP Fourex

for people who dont know what bile farms are...a bile farm is a well...farm, where workers cut open bears (as far as we know) and drain the bile for medicines and other products. Bears can be kept there for up to 20 years, and are left with a permanent wound through their stomaches. They are kept in cages, far from the appropriate size they are supposed to be, and when bears get restless, the workers cut off paws, or beat them until they have no more energy to be stubborn. There is actually no protest about bile farms, as it is LEGAL in china. Personally i feel there should be a protest to stop this animal cruelty, but the main point of this thread is for people to be aware of this issue

    thankyou for reading

Bile farms suck. Egg factories are just as bad, methinks.

NOTHING that is legal in China would surprise me. It is a horribly corrupt country. This is a sad thing. What can the West do?

  6. put trade sanctions on china and trade with cuba the lesser of two evils...... won't happen, chinese goods are too cheap, we make to much profit of their cruelty, but that's where we are.......

If we put trade sanctions on China, there would be very few products available in the US considering nearly nothing is made here anymore.

Agreed that this is sick and wrong.

We are saying different things, you are saying we profit from their crualty, I am saying they make all of our stuff...we aren't profiting from it at all, we have a huge trade deficit with them, meaning they are profiting from us.

Trade sanctions would be great. It would not only help end this kind of shit, but put Americans back to work. Yet, with the Right attempting to destroy the Middle Class, this isn't going to happen. I think sanctions would be the a really good idea. Now, try convincing the government, and all the jerks who shop at walmart and voted the current administration in.

thankyou for reading the message, its horrible, nobody at my highschool knows about bile farms, so i feel it is my mission to make it aware to people, as of now, there are most of the animal protection organisations doing their best to ban it, the rest dont know about it yet, teams are set out to rescue bears from bile farms, but a lot of people get arrested, because it is legal in china. Terrible i know, but maybe if some people start petitions in some countries and take it to their governments it might make it to united nations, and will be banned once and for all. Thankyou again for reading.
