I was planning to move to Aurora in September but my friend who had a place for me backed out. Now I am kind of stuck. I will be in Toronto in September to see the Stones concert, so I just need a place to stay until I can find a job. I can pay rent, I just need a "roommate" for awhile. If anyone is interested or knows someone who may be interested, please reply. I live in Prince Edward Island, a poor, shitty place and need to get out. I really want to move so I will be able to get involved with political activism and the band/music scene (my two passions). If anyone can help let me know. I tried to move 3 years ago and failed but I am older now so I am hoping it will work this time. Any help would be appreciated!
Toronto's a fine city! (sarcastic, like when Lt. Dan said to Forrest Gump and Bubba, "Little Rock's a fine town!"

[/QUOTE] Well that's ironic - I live in Toronto and would love to live in P.E.I. ......too bad we couldn't just trade lives! On the surface Toronto looks like a real money town, a rich man's playground. -which is fine I suppose, if you have the bucks. Otherwise, find yourself a group of college kids (who don't live at home) to hang out with. Believe me, they know how to survive in this city. They make an art out of cheap living, and of course are in touch with all the grassroots stuff. Bands you will find in plenty - especially on the west side of town (although they're sort of all over the place. A tip: Consider yourself lucky that Aurora fell through. You'd have spent a fortune commuting. Avoid the burbs (for all the obvious reasons) but seriously - the distance from outer suburbia here to the downtown core is like going from Charlottetown to Summerside (except that's a nicer drive.) Toronto communities? Beaches: Cutesy and expensive, but a rather nice boardwalk, a beach (of sorts) and funky shopping. Kensington Market: great eats, and if you're smart, cheap as dirt. Great architecture, close to UofT and George Brown community college. Lots of culture! - a real mix. Riverdale: where all good yuppies go to die Parkdale: avoid it like the plague - cheap, but not a good introduction to Toronto. Cabbagetown: Parliament Street is still pretty funky - it is downtown Toronto's east side (as Spadina Ave. is Toronto's west side.) There isn't much cheap housing left in Cabbagetown, though. You'll probably find the best housing deals out in the east end, and the west end....along either the subway line (Bloor/Danforth) or the various streetcar lines. See what you can find in the way of shared accomodation postings websites...there must be something of that nature.... Work? - there's always Starbucks. Make sure you bring a good resume.... Bands? Check out Sneeky Dee's, Holy Joe's, The Horseshoe, The Silver Dollar, The Cameron House (these are all on the west side of downtown) Another tip: If you find yourself overwhelmed and disoriented, and just blown away by the sheer size of the place...do NOT go hang out at the Eaton Centre. (tourist trap a la extraordinaire) Instead, take a stroll though the downtown University of Toronto campus, wander into the libraries and pretend you're a reader (they're free) (check out the campus newspapers (they're free as well) Buy yourself a purse-sized Perly's Toronto map guide. Well, that's my Maritimer's guide to Toronto. 5 minutes' worth. Good luck to you. Anything you want to know about my little town, just ask. later-
I live in Riverdale. But I live near Queen where the population has a fair share of scuzzy old white people and Asians. Riverdale's not bad, rent is pretty cheap (well... for Toronto). It is just dull. The Opera House venue is really close to my place, but I've never seen a show there. 10 - 15 minutes by TTC or Bike to the downtown core. My current roomies are looking at a place that has a separete basement bachelor, but the deal is that if they find someone for that bachelor rent goes down and everyone has access to the laundry machine.I think its around $500 and its near Trinity - Bellwoods park. I don't know if they have a 5th person yet though... I'll have to ask.
