Courtesy of CNN tonight. The survey was based upon how many people used marijuana in the past 30 days by region. According to the survey, this was the first time the subject was looked at by region - not just an entire state, hence a local view. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/16/marijuana.use.ap/index.html I find this to be rather interesting because there are so many people on this board that chant legalize it, legalize it, because the majority of the people of this country want it, yet according to this study, even in the areas of the country where marijuana is 'used' the most - only 1 in roughly 10 do so. When I look at last weeks supreme court decision (bad) and all the pro marijuana rallies I've seen in this country, those who support legalization truly lack 'strength in numbers' and this study supports that notion. Marijuana use The regions with the 10 highest and lowest rates of marijuana use by residents 12 and over, according to a report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: Highest Boston, 12.16 percent Boulder, Colorado, 10.3 Southeast Massachusetts, 9.53 Portland, Ore., region, 9.48 Champlain Valley, Vermont, 9.37 San Francisco region, 9.24 Hawaii Island, 9.22 Central Massachusetts, 9 North Central California, 8.93 Washington, Rhode Island, 8.81 Lowest Northwest Iowa, 2.28 Northeast Iowa, 2.53 North central Texas, 2.59 Central Iowa, 2.63 Lake region and south central North Dakota, 2.65 Northern Nebraska, 2.65 Southeast Oklahoma, 2.77 East-central South Dakota, 2.78 Badlands and west central North Dakota, 2.81 Central Nebraska, 2.88 *I'd like to add that I'm from Boston and currently live in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. and yes, I do smoke and feel it should be legal. I used to smoke everyday, sometimes several times a day. Now I smoke perhaps ten days out of the month. In general though, reading something like this is indeed quite discouraging for someone who wishes marijuana to be legal. If the study is accurate, one could conclude that the masses of this nation truley aren't that interested in legalizing pot and thus probably aren't that heartbroken about last week's Supreme Court decision.
Yay for Boston! One of my major smoking buddies just moved back there for the summer and he was talking about it being Hydro season. I must go visit him sometime.
im surprised arizona isnt on the top 10 list....lots of pot smokers here, and they're some indian tribes that use it religiously along with peyote.
But that's only people who've used in in the last 30 days, a poll of people who've ever used it might be a bit more interesting..
Iowa is at the bottom of the list only because its the meth capital of the US.... they prefer smokin the glass than smokin herbs In iowa you dont see tumbleweeds rolling down the street. you see empty bleach bottles.... - some random comedian
Lawtown, represent! =P For all the pot thats supposably getting smoked up here, I gotta find me some better shit. Not to say what my friends and I get is bad, but I know theres alot better out there somewhere =D
