There are too many sex offenders in the news. Now does anyone know why? Obviously, because the media thinks that everyone will agree that sex offenders are total assholes and the scum of society. If they put something more in need of news coverage like all this bullshit in Iraq or all the awful shit the Republicans are doing to destroy the Constitution, people would disagree, and they would create a controversy. So they just censor it out and put some crap on about sex offenders or murders which, while they SHOULD be watched out for, are usually things that leave enough of an impression on people the first few times that we don't need to see them 4 trillion times on one News broadcast. This time could much better be taken up with a variety of issues, including:
--The legality of the war in Iraq
--The actual details of the laws that are being approved by the Republican Senate
--The genocide in Sudan that no one seems to know about/care about
--Sweatshop labor overseas and the treatment of the workers

Or, if it's FOX News, you could see:
--300 "perverted homosexuals" burning an effigy of Jesus
--Charles Darwin's secret ties to Hitler
--Bill Clinton's secret ties to Osama bin Laden
    --Liberals flip flopping

Or a variety of other types of FOX news bullshit.

I guess I kind of got off topic there. Whatever.

i agree that the term 'sex offender' covers too wide a scope. some people labled as such are scarred for life - even if they were 18 and had consensual sex w/ a 16 year old - but there are some seriously sick fucks out there that need the term tatooed in big bold letters to their forhead.

for example: a while back my oldman met this dude who he really liked, i got a bad vibe the second i met him. my oldman tells me this dude was in the navy - was discharged on medical leave - he's a solid upstanding guy. i was checking out the portland, me police website one day and lo and behold there was this dudes picture under the sex offenders heading. after some research, it turns out when he was 21 he "had consensual sex" with a child under the age of 13.
yeah, solid upstanding citizen my ass. i had my b.f. tell him to stay the fuck away from my house & 2 boys. but my b.f. still talks to him. i won't let him near the house. anyway, back to the point.
once an offender always an offender.
i was at home one day & was not answering my door because i didn't want to deal w/ anyone, this offender - Scott - came knocking on my door, i didn't answer. not 2 minutes later my 8 year old son got home from school - right as he closed the door a knock came. it was Scott AGAIN - he says to my son 'hey j, i just seen you get off the school bus, i was here a minute ago, where is your mom and dad?' so i opened the door wide & let him know i was right here & to get the hell away from my kid. my b.f. blew it off saying Scott may have thought one of us came home. not likely, you can only get into my place one way and anyone on the street can see who comes and goes.
i've wonmdered everyday since - is it possible that he could have done something ot my son? the only answer i can come up with is YES.
this dude is now ridinig around the neighborhoo with a set of MASTERLOCK handcuffs attatched to his bike - I ask you WHY??? WHY would a sex offender need handcuffs? possibly for his next victim? people like this is why there is constant news updates about sex offenders - they are everywhere & they CAN NOT BE REHABILITATED. again i do realize that some get this lable unfairly & i do not hold anything against them, it's just the true child victimizers that i HATE & yes, i too would not mind pulling the trigger & getting rid of every last one of these disgusting pigs.
i normally am a peace loving person - but people like that should not be allowed to breathe our air. they all need to be rounded up & sent straight to the bowels of hell where they can feel free to rape and ravage one another and let the poor innocnet children of the world live happily & without fear.
well, i'm done with my rant, thanks for listening. peace

    Let's see....

What does it take NOT to be labeled a sex offender? I know... go read the law and don't do anything that breaks that law. WOW!!! go figure!

Hey, I know... how about not doing anything that flashes your privates in public? WOW!!! that's easy enough. How about not having sex with minors even if it's consensual? Being that minors, according to the law, cannot consent to sex. WOW!!!! what a concept.

I read some of this thread and some I didnt...

But why does it bother someone so much that they talk about sex offenders and who is sex offenders on tv... I think they dont talk about it enough or make it aware enough. You dont know how damaging it is to a innocent child to be molested and such. I would want to know who the sex offenders are in my area so I could be aware to not go fucking near them.
Sex offenders are scum and shit..
But I dont really hear too much about sex offenders on television, so I dont know who stated that though in the first place...

quote: Hey, I know... how about not doing anything that flashes your privates in public? WOW!!!

So an 18 year old flashing someone deserves to be labelled for life and have to notify his neighbors that he is a sex offender for life, and you think the penalty fits the crime.

You are a fucking moron, MHR.

I don't think they need to list sex offenders on TV...there is a registry that you can use to find sex offenders in your area, and many states give you notifications when a sex offender moves into your area.

You say people aren't aware enough, but all you hear on the news are these terrifying stories of these terrible things that happen to people. They eat those stories up, and we are bombarded with them relentlessly. Listen to the news every day and you'll start to think eveyone is a danger. Our news media thrives on violence and victimization of others.

My biggest problem with the sex offender registries is that they usually cost money, but I think I remember reading somewhere that that is going to change.

Well, if the law says that flashing your privates makes you a sex offender, then I guess I have no choice but to accept it. What a concept huh? I don't have any plans to try and change it either.

If you hate the law so much and want to flash your privates then do something about it. File a complaint against the law. We'll see how much power you have against the majority of people who think flashing is wrong and who believe it should have a strong punishment in order to prevent it from happening.

Every sex offender/child molester were themselves abused as children.
So who here advocates locking up victims of child abuse for the rest of their lives, or killing them?
Because there is a good chance they will end up doing to other what others did to them.
