My computer's RAM's fucked up since my PC broke down. I managed to fix it without losing any info and now my memory is screwed up. Any ideas on what I could do?

If it's the RAM stick, then replace it. If you could be more specific, that could help solve the problem. What is the specific error?

Shut everything down. Take out the Ram Stick. Boot Up again, and check your Bios to see if it still reads your Ram amount. Then, shut down and reinstall the stick. Boot up, and check the Bios again. If the numbers don't change, your stick is bad.

Alright, here is how to replace/remove/install RAM sticks.

1.Make sure the power is off on your computer.
    2.Take the case side off.
3.You should now see the innards of your computer. Before you touch anything in there, touch a metal part of the case, or, the power supply(usually in the back of the computer). That is to discharge static, as static can kill computer components.
4.Inside, you should look on the motherboard(the big thing that everything else is hooked into) and see this: [IMG]
That, is a stick of RAM.
On either side, there should be a tab to hold it in place. Take each, and pull it away from the RAM. It should snap away, but not off. This should pop out the stick of RAM.
    5. Take out the RAM.

That's how to remove RAM. Now to replace.

    Reapeat steps 1-4 from above.
1.To put the stick back in, look at the bottom of the RAM stick and then on the inside of the RAM slot to make sure you don't insert it improperly. Once, you're sure it's in there firmly, the tabs should snap back into place, locking the RAM in place. Don't push too hard, don't force it. Just keep trying until both tabs will snap it in place.
Once the RAM is in, plug the power back in and start up the computer.

No paging file huh? Weird. What OS are you running? If it's Windows, I can help.
Also, did you try fiddling with your RAM?

This depends alot on what OS you're running , I am going to assume your on a windows platform, now if it's XP this site should help. Also you can never go wrong checking out Micro$ofts support page. I am thinking that your paging file is most likey their, there's just not enough space alotted for it. Anyway get back to us on what OS your running and we'll try to help you out. ~p3@c3~

There are several reasons why you might want to move your paging file or change its size. If it's not large enough, your system may not function properly. You can also gain performance benefits by moving the paging file to a hard drive separate from the rest of the operating system files, or to a hard drive that is simply faster than the one it's on by default.

To move the file, right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop, and choose Properties. Click the Advanced tab of the System Properties window that appears, and then click the Performance Options button (settings then click advanced again). Under the Virtual Memory section, click the Change Button. On the Virtual Memory window, you can highlight a drive, type in the minimum and maximum settings for that drive, and then click the Set button (if you are unsure about what to put here, let your system decide, which is called SYSTEM MANAGED SIZE). If you are moving the paging file, you must first create the settings on the destination drive, and then zero out the settings for the current drive. A reboot will be necessary for the changes to take effect.

    I hope this helps.

It's now obvious you are not savvy, but that's alright.
What you mentioned was the processor, which is different from RAM. With Windows XP, the bareminimum amount of RAM is 256. if you don't have that much, upgrade.
How cheap is it? I got 512 megabytes of PC2100 DDR SDRAM for $100 a while back, a few months ago at least. That should give you an idea.

256mb is gonna set you back around £30 in the UK. But if you don't even know how much memory you've got, then you're gonna have problems fitting it. You could really do with someone who knows what they're doing to fit it for you. It's not the hardest of tasks by a long shot, but the first time you do it, it can be a little difficult just because you're not sure how much pressure to apply when you're pushing the memory into its slot.
