I'm not too sure about that! Think of what the heterosexual world pictures when they think of the gay community: 1.) HIV/AIDS 2.) drug abuse 3.) easy sex 4.) drag queens 5.) Just Jack 6.) Anal sex 7.) bath houses 8.) window treatments 9.) lisps 10.) etc, etc, etc . . . all in all, MJ is pretty insignificant.
To be honest though, I think the initial court case involving that cancer patient is a crock of shit...And it's not to be mean, either. Think about it, the cancer patient dreamt of spending a day with his idol, Michael Jackson. Suddenly, he accuses him of rape, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a ploy to get money, especially if they need money for the cancer. Plus, on an emotional level, the cancer patient has the upper-hand. Can be plausible, right?
I understand what you are saying, but anyone who thinks that MJ is indicative of the entire gay community is an idiot. That would be the SAME think as saying he is indicative of black males! MJ is just a freak! I am not so sure that he is gay, either. . . has he ever said he was?
Whether or not MJ says he is gay is a minor point. The annoying thing is that there are thousands of people who are convinced that MJ is gay. The fact that he has been accused more than once of molesting boys (no girls) is part of it, and the way he talks and looks is another part. Even though MJ has been found innocent, there are people out there who didn't hear all of the testimony and are convinced in their heart of hearts that he is guilty. I honestly can't say one way or another whether MJ is gay. I do know that a jury with more evidence than I've seen has found him innocent of child molesting charges. Think of it this way: would you allow your son to spend the night with a man who has been accused of child molestation. If you were a man who has been the target of such rumors, would you allow a young boy to share your bed?
MJ is very andro. He was one of the people that put androgynous people in the lime light. Maybe not as much as Boy George but anyhow. Here's this highly visible andro that everyone is sure is a pedophile but they just don't have the right evidence. That is going to make the small minded people think that we all are like that. It doesn't matter what he actually did or didn't do. From what everyone I know is saying he is presumed guilty. I & the rest of the genderqueer folks don't need more fuel for homophobia. The main 2 reasons in my oppinion why he won was 1) hes Michael Jackson 2) the accusers mother was really, really crazy. Of course that is the truth since she let him sleep with him in the first place.
As far as the people out there who associate gays with pedophiles (the correct spelling, by the way), those are often the same people who associate blacks with con artists, etc. Michael really has nothing to do with this, other than to inflame the old stereotypes which have been there all along. Attacking Michael will do nothing to root out such ignorance. The funny part is that if Big Brother (i.e., the corporate media and power structure) decided to make pedophilia into a virtue over, say, a ten year period, these same people would completely buy it! Remember that in "1984" (the book), 2 + 2 = whatever Big Brother tells you it is. Of course, Big Brother has found that fundamentalist religion, combined with intolerance and even outright demagoguery that would make Hitler blush, is probably the most effective way to keep those same people under control. Depressing, isn't it?

There was little to no evidence Michael Jackson had ever done anything with young boys. He is by no means a convicted paedophile (no offense but I don't think someone who can't even spell the word is much of an authority on paedophilia). The only witnesses were jilted ex-employees who had a lot to gain from lying, and nothing to lose. The mother was, from what I'd heard and seen, someone who made money from lying- they hounded celebrities for money for the Gavin's operations, but the operations were paid for by insurance anyway. Once they started to leave the limelight, they suddenly accused Michael of sexual assault, despite numerous opportunities to do so earlier, and many adamant denials by Gavin, the only indication of sexual assault in children is often a change in behaviour- sudden violent outbursts, mood swings, etc. and Gavin had none of that- well, none observed anyway: he was a violent, rude young man in the first place and never lost any of that arrogance and bigheadedness, no dip in self esteem, nothing. The only 'evidence' that Michael Jackson had molested children is his paying off accusers in the past, but this is easily understandable considering his vulnerability. Many stars simply pay off accusers rather than going to court, it's easier, less embarrasing, better for their careers. I don't really think there is a way to categorise Michael Jackson, but I very much doubt anyone would consider him representative of the gay community. We've all pretty much come to the conclusion he's an enigma, running around calling people paedophiles or drawing links between different types of sexual deviance, insinuating it's all the same thing (whether you believe it or keep the perception alive through, for example, starting threads telling everyone there is a link between paedophilia and being gay), doesn't help anything- the only effect it really has is to make some people feel a bit threatened, stereotyped, or just angry. That someone, without hearing all the evidence for themselves, would jump to conclusions like that is really irritating. Just my 2c
Your points about Michael Jackson ignores two incontrovertible facts about him: 1) His marriage to Lisa Marie Presley was a total Hollywood sham. Even Lisa Marie admits that now. Ditto his marriage to Debbie Rowe -- who's now suing Michael for custody of their three children. Since Michael's second marriage ended, he hasn't bothered to even pretend that he has any adult love interests. 2) Michael is a real-life Peter Pan, either incapable or unwilling to grow up. if he isn't a pedophile, then how do you explain his total lack of adult lovers? Rumors continue to persist that he and Debbie conceived their three children through artificial insemination. An why did Michael have Debbie surrender all her parental rights when they divorced?
