Why I Oppose Tattoos

its not YOUR body... who cares??

 

i think this thread influenced a dream i had last night... had a crazy dream I had all these tattoos that I didnt want on my body... was like "what the hell!? when did I decide to get a tattoo of this shit?!"

 

Tattoos aren't just "fashion statements" or "temporary". Tattoos have existed in many cultures since the begining of time. Celts, Vikings, Africans, Aztecs, Mayans, Samonian... all of these cultures used tattoos in various ways. Check the facts before making a statement, eh?

well, I agree and it's a matter of fact that tattoos have existed since ages and worldwide, anyway in the "western societies" it's become a kind of fashion indeed, for instance:ten years the same tattoo picture on a sailor's arm when unloading a ship at harbor was looked as something weird or worse as absolutely "out" by most of the people, nowadays the same tatoo would be looked as , just because now it's "in"..moreover what does it mean, that you get tatooed in oorder to remember something??!! Are you afraid to forget it??!!, it's not that important then..
anyway that was a bit provoking, it's a great thing the fact that we "discovered" tatoos, which bring in values from different cutures, it's a new way to communicate, they express feelings without words and more; the risk is, as we did with anything, to abuse it and turn it to be a consumistic item..I don't approve for example people who get a tatoo without knowing a shit about the culture it comes from, after all the esthetic value is subjective and absolutely personal but knowledge is important too..
In fact sailors were amongst the only people to have tatoos 'cause they got in contact with people from the seven seas who transfered them this art.That's the point: let us not spoil an art just for a need of the moment..
Anyway, anyone is always free to do anything which feels to..

i like tattoos because it makes it so you cant forget who you aer or once were. its anm everlasting memory. even if some of them are dumb or bad, its personal. but i respect your opinion

 

Ok, so thats your opinion fair enough.
I disagree because when I think about tattoos, I don't care if guys won't like how they look, at the end of the day, if some guy is shallow enough to not want to date me over a tattoo, then I'm better off without them. Tattoos are for the person who has them only, they're usually very personal, a memory of something really great that happened, or just a design you love.
I certainly don't think, "no, I'm not going to get a tattoo incase future partners think it decreases my 'cuteness'" lol! As I said before, body modifications are totally for the person that has them.
To me, tattoos represent a part of someone's life that has been really significant and they want to remember that feeling/thought forever.

 

Tatoos in moderation can look very beautiful. Much better than piercing loads of holes into your face or wherever.

 

i know parents who would bring their kids to get tattoos, but not piercings1 isnt that wierd! tattoos are, you know, permanet, and piercing arent tattoo... the parents dont really make sense

 

Wow. I can't believe I'm about to type this, but 'rainbowcat' just changed by mind on this. I was about to post about how tattoos are stupid, how I have one and wish I hadn't, and it's all really stupid and gay.

Now, I still think tattoos are stupid, but that's just me; I realized when I read this:

It took a while to decipher, but when I worked it out, I thought 'oh yeah!'. You see, whenever I see my tattoo, it reminds me that once I was stupid and superficial enough to do things like that. I can't forget who I once was, no matter how hard I try!

 

i couldnt agree more, this is getting slightly off the point but i hate the way that other cultures are totally abused for financial gain or just because people think they are cool. my pet peeve is the way that rastafarianism is marketed to death, i cant go anywhere without seeing the stereotypical picture of some rasta in shorts t shirt and a red yellow and green hat with a huge doob hanging out of his mouth - for fucks sake, its somebodys religion, rastafarianism wouldnt ever have got half the exposure it has today if their sacrement wasnt marijuana. people think its 'cool' and it makes me sick.

i agree with what people have said on this thread that tats have been around for centuries, but that kinda does and kinda doesn't validate a reason for getting a tat. a tat is freedom of expression just like freedom of speech, so i'm not justifying what lsdseeker said, but i'm not bashing it either. tats are the business of the person who wears them. yes, i have a tat, so fuck off lsdseeker!

To each his own. I would love a tattoo that lasted several years as opposed to an entire lifetime, though, I must admit.

 

There are finds of tattoos going back over 5000 years could it be that tattoing is the oldest profession?

If the entire body is covered in tattoos, I see what you mean. Small ones don't bother me a bit though, and I don't mind if people get tattoos.
