If so, God is a s close as our own thoughts. A related question is: are your thoughts really your own?

I Sam. 2:3 ". . . for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed."

The spirit is DEAD until you become christian.

Without it, our when it's dead, we're as much as animals.

    Plants: body
    Animals: Body and soul
Humans (if saved): Body, soul, and spirit.

the body=the flesh, you TOUCH the world physicly
Soul=mind, will, and emotion. You CONTACT the world mentaly and emotionaly.
Spirit= You contact the Lord this way. The part of you that gives access to the Lord.

I hope this cleared things up a little! :)

So non-Christians are animals!? I'm a Christian and frankly that really pisses me off thank you very much. Now go sit on something sharp!

Okay, don't actually sit on something sharp. I said that because I was mad and it wasn't nice. Really though, who fed you that trash about non-Chrisitans being animals!? I sure hope you didn't come up with it on your own because if you did you are one sick puppy. That's the kind of brainless disgusting dogma that comes out of Nazis and KKK members.

Nothing in the Gospels supports that idea, nothing in the Bible at all supports it without some VERY interesting interpretation. Christ never said anything remotely like it.

I wasn't always a Chrisitan, and is it only since I have become a Chrisitan that that kind of crap has got to me. The idea of people using the name of Christ, using my saviour to justify their own vile, repulsive hatred really genuinely pisses me off.

Now have another mad face, or maybe two :mad:.

    I'm done now.

Yes. And you're lying. You're not Christian. Your religion states 'other' in your profile.

I put "other" because putting "Chrisitan" immediately gets me labled with as much steryotyping and BS as you can imagine. Most importantly, the term "Christian" is itself so loaded and has been alterted so extensively from the original intent that it is almost meaningless and is usually misleading. I use the term very sparingly. Sometimes it becomes necessary to use it when I don't want to go into a lengthy description of my faith but need to make only the most general tenents of my faith know. Should anybody ask me about my faith I will be more than willing to tell them. To reiterate, the term "Christian" is simply no longer a good or useful term for folks who try to follow the teachings of our Saviour Christ Yashua Messiah.

p.s. To avoid misunderstanding, no I am not a "Jew for Jesus". Sometimes people think that I am since I say the name "Yashua Messiah".

p.p.s Oh, Ryupower I edited my original post to make it more explanatory as well. By the way I don't think that you are in any way similar to a Naiz or KKK member, or that you are some kind of hate monger and I didn't mean to imply that you were or are. However, the non-christians being like animals thing is what comes out of those kind of folks and I find it highly disturbingwhen it come from good nice people like yourself.

that you thought to offer help, but my questions were rhetorical, and I had hoped they would generate conversation rather than the usual chest thumping.

It would be great to see, in this forum, that it is more about the post and less about the poster.

Anyway . . . here is my next rhetorical question.

If we were created in the image of an invisible God, how come we can see each other? :)

He's not invisible. He's there!
It's even described in the Bible that he's brighter than 20 suns and sits on a throne. :)

The Holy Spirit's invisible though...I think.

    PS: Sorry, Jumbo. :(

It could be that spirit is something deeper than either thought or mental energy. A power that transcends all limitations and labels. It is tempting to say it is pure, unconditioned consciousness.

But thoughts could be inspired in the mind by the spirit, and I believe that in the minds of some they are. The spirit though can also inspire love in the heart.

As to the second question : are your thoughts your own - they are part of the experience of the individual. But neither thought nor even mind itself can be identified as consciousness. They are an object of consciousness, and hence, in a sense, external to our essential being.
If you mean do we 'make' our own thoughts - I'd say only in rare cases, because most of it is simply a process of reaction to external or bodily stimuli. So maybe the more abstract a thought, the more it can be said to be 'my thought'.

I don't think animals have a spirit...let alone plants. It's even stated in the Bible. They can't communicate with the Lord.

And the person DID ask on a Christin forum. If you think we're closed-minded, than don't complain to us, complain to Jesus.

If he asks on a christian forum, he's gonna get answers from Christians.

He didn't ask on a Hindu or New Age Forum...did he? Or does this look like one to you?

I'd have to correct you a little, but with full respect to Christianity. The spirit is dead until you become SPIRITUAL. It's spirituality that revives the soul.

This forum isn't the Christian pat yourself on the back club where you discuss how everyone but your special self is going to hell. Here people can debate topics on christianity, regardless of their own religion.

Lose the attitude ryupower, being a smarmy bitch is a good way to get yourself a spot in hell. (with me, i'll annoy you for the rest of eternity)

And don't give me that "I'm just sayin' what the bible says teehee" bullshit.

You really do tax the nerves.

Given everything else you've asserted so boldly on this thread about the Spirit, I'm afraid " I think it's invisible" just isn't good enough. If you have it as you imply, surely you'd know without a doubt if it is invisible of not. On the other hand, if you are just repeating what you've been told/read, then perhaps a little more christian humility might be in order in making these 'definitive' statements about the nature of the Spirit and who or what it resides in.
