Wow you're really a genius aren't you? You can't even see that by insinuating that such things are reserved for people of colour, you ARE being racist.

Turn off your breathing and lose your life, you piece of shit. You disgust me.

Not to mention that you came in my thread completely unprovoked and hit the Reply button just to make a smartass comment on how it's apparently "sad" that I decided to try getting my hair braided, or that for some strange reason I prefer a different style of music to the style of music you prefer regardless of the OH-SO-IMPORTANT fact that we share the same skin colour.

    Fucking moron.

Took ol girl 2 hours, but she kept gettin called on her cell phone and some of her homegirls came in and distracted her. It depends on your hair type, but I'd say it really shouldn't take longer than 2 hours. I think my friend who has afro-type hair said it takes an hour for his, or maybe less.

Yeah I think it would take around 2 hours. It is kind of painful during the actual braiding but I felt fine for the next day or so. Thing is I think I touched my hair too damn much and somehow made one of the cornrows tighter than it should have been which caused me a serious headache.
If you can get someone to do it for you for nothing or for a pittance then go for it. I think it will take a bit of getting used to and may not stay in very long depending on how good you take care of it, but I think that maybe it's just me that gets extremely pissed off at small things like my hair being itchy.

A plus was that it was extremely easy to remove them... I just went in the bathroom, plucked off all the elastic bands, hopped in the shower and washed my hair wavin my hands around in all directions as usual, and ta-da they were gone along with my headache. She used herbal cholesterol to braid my hair though which didn't come out with shampoo, so my hair was really greasy for the few days before I went and got it cut.

I'd say that if I had a girl that could fix me up like that for nothing I would just wash my hair and get em redone whenever, but I don't :D

If you wanna try, do so by all means, just don't spend a sizeable chunk of change for it because it may just not be compatible with you, hahah.

haha yea, that was pretty ignorant for people to come in here and say what they did.

think about it though, it just shows you that racism is still widespread and all over, and many people who are racist inside don't even realize it.

the ones who made those statements in this thread actually appeared to not realize they were making ignorant, judgemental and racist comments.

I'm not trying to blow something out of proportion, just wanted to say something about it.

btw - I dislike the style myself. the girl did do a really nice job though

That and it is also fairly ignorant to view a culture as a plaything. Taking an aspect of a culture of which you are not a part and which you have no specific attachment to and treating it as little more than a toy is incredibly disrespectful and disgusting. Basically an updated version of playing indian.

im a metal dude. I got a few homey g type friends. so fucking what? Its just style. so he likes rap music and wears fubu. I listen to metal and wear black. The bottom line is we both blow the same speakers.

ID never get cornrows though. call me racist if you want, but i think it only really works with black people because they have different hair.

 a reply with some sense

who's using what as a plaything now? i tried braids for a few days before i got my hair cut cuz it's summer, so i'm ignorant now?

that's not racist, its kind of true in a way except not only folk that are classified as black have that type of hair. i realized that there is a huge difference between hair types after getting my hair braided.

I like cornrows, I'd love to do it to my hair, but it just seems like it'd be so painful, plus my hair's like seven billion different lengths and really thin in places. I doubt I'd look that great with them. My brother's friend cornrowed her hair and it looks absolutely adorable, but I don't think it would work on me. After a few hours, even braided pigtails annoy me. But I think cornrows are awesome.

Wow, where to start... Well, I'm not black or white. I'm a mix and if I must refer to the colour of my skin, I guess I'd call it light olive (since my dad is Palestinian and my mom is Polish), or tan, or golden-beige. Anyway... This rant will go out to whoever said racist (stupid) comments towards psycho dub.

First of all, Professor Jumbo, he is not using anyone else's culture. Culture has nothing to do with the colour of your skin. Culture deals with where/how and around who you were raised. If his friends are black, and they all listen to hip-hop, and dress a certain way, and that's what he does also, then that's his culture. If the colour of your skin had anything to do with culture, I guarantee you, African Americans wouldn't be listening to hip-hop, buying CDs, playing video games, playing basketball, etc. That's why when a white person is born and raised in Jamaica for example, they have a Jamaican accent, because they're Jamaican, that's their culture!

Now since we're talking a lot about skin colour, here's the deal. We were all black at one point because we all come from Africa (so there, it's actually part of all of our culture). So paperclipart, your roots are black too so you are allowed to "act" black. Melanin (skin coulour/pigment) is used to protect people from the sun. When humans started migrating up north to Europe and Asia (and eventually North America), they started losing their dark pigment because it was colder (less sun/heat), and they needed to absorb as much sunshine as they could. Of course, this took hundreds or thousands of years, but they adapted to their environment. White (well actually non-black people) still have traces of melanin, we call them beauty marks, because black is beautiful! Same way Asians have smaller (covered) eyes. Because they lived in high altitudes where it was very cold and windy, their eyes needed protection so they adapted. Isn't evolution amazing?! Oh yeah, and if racist white people like yourselves keep polluting and destroying this planet, and especially the ozone layer, as the sunshine gets stronger, we'll probably all be black again very soon (although we mostly live indoors and all, so it might not actually happen, but you never know).

As for music... If we discuss the lyrical aspect of it, last time I checked, whether you're black or white you can talk, and hence you can rhyme/rap. There are many white rappers and many black rockers. My fav white rap/rocker, Zack de la Rocha. I dare you to try and insult his rhymes. And what about French rap, ever heard that? Pretty good stuff if you understand the language. Now if we look at it instrumentally, sure, most guitarists for example are white, but guess who my two favs are. Jimi Hendrix and Tom Morello... Both black. And in my opinion, Hendrix is the greatest of all time, but that's just me. You wanna tell me he stole white people's culture? Hell, if he did, I'm glad he did! He revolutionized it and made it better.

    Sports...
Who's one of the best hockey players around? Jarome Iginla... black!
Who won this year's NBA MVP? Steve Nash... white! And not only is he not black, but he's not American, he's Canadian; he's only either the first or second non-American to win it. So once again, your culture thing doesn't hold up.
Old baseball homerun kings: Ruth/Maris/McGwire... white.
New baseball homerun king: Bonds... black!
Speaking of baseball, who won America's Passtime's World Series in 92 and 93? Toronto Blue Jays
And who was gonna win it in 94 before the strike: Montreal Expos
    Best golfer: Tiger... black!
Best female tennis players: Williams sisters... black!
Soccer (football): Like all of the above, it doesn't matter!
I could go on, but you should be getting the point by now.

As for the wigga/faggot comments... If you're calling him a wigga because he's white and "acts" black, it would've been better to call him wlack or bhite. You basically refer to black rappers as niggas. Go tell a black person he's a nigga, you won't be white for long. And I wasn't aware that heterosexual people looked different than homosexual people. What does a homosexual look like, *halloweenriot*? Is this information found in a dictionary or encyclopedia? And who labeled it as such? You must be drunk... But wait! Are you Irish? Because if you're not, maybe you shouldn't be drinking, that's stealing culture... Idiots!

Growing up, in high school, I mostly listened to what I call club scene music, which is basically hip-hop, techno, and dance (yes, a lot of dance, I laugh about it now but whatever). When I went to college, I started to get into the rock/metal scene and I'm still in it. But I don't limit myself to any style of music. I still listen to my old CDs (well, maybe not the dance ones because white people can't dance, jk), and if a good hip-hop, techno, jazz, whatever song comes on the radio, I'll listen to it. If you don't listen to hip-hop just because you're not black, you're missing out on some beautiful poetry. Fugees, Wu-Tang Clan, 2pac, Biggie, etc. I'm sick of these music/race/culture wars. Labels don't exist, or shouldn't exist, because no one has the authority to define them. Who has the right to define what a black or white person is supposed to look/act like? Who decides what fat is? Is it 100 pounds? 200 pounds? No one can! Educate yourself, and open/expand your mind a bit; 'cause it's really getting old, and I'm really sad that I had to post this to begin with. When will people learn?...

Note: Might as well post something in reference to the actual creation of this thread. I think your hair looks great, and the 450/514 Mount Real represents!

Now I'm off to Jamaicanize myself by shmokin' shome weed, and I'll wash it down with an Irish beer. Lates!

? you took my post the wrong way. i never claimed homosexual people look differently than anyone else. where did u get that from? lets just call it a simple misunderstanding.

i dont agree with all these people attacking him just because he got his hair done in braids. its ridiculous because its his hair and who really gives a fuck? the way he has his hair done isnt going to effect anyone here in anyway, shape or form. everyone just relax
