Okay... I'm not sure how it's happened, but the top of my right foot is all swollen and I can barely walk on it or move my toes, and it fucking hurts!!!

Could this have happened from walking everywhere barefoot...or no?

I feel like an idiot, I was just boasting about how proud I am of my strong feet and now my foot acts up.

IF it is from going barefoot, does anyone have any ideas of how to help it feel better without having to wear shoes? I honestly despise shoes, my feet get too hot too easily.... Are there any natural remedies for this besides going to the doctor?

I'll bed you've banged your foot somewhere, trapped a nerve, caused an inflammation in a muscle or tendon orsomething. It happens to us all, and no more regularly to people who wear shoes than to those who don't. Pop down to your GP, get them to have a look and prescribe you some painkillers and take a couple of day off work to rest and you'll be fine.

Is it possible that you were bitten by a spider or some other creepy-crawly critter?

    Peace.

Try to remember if you may've hit it anywhere -could be yesterday and taken a day to swell up. Also, could be an insect bite... I personally wouldn't go to the GP yet, but then I don't go to a doctor easily and when I do my GP's comment usually is 'oh, a lot of people have that problem'... like I care how many other people are affected, *I* wanna get rid of whatever it is! But okay, I digress... I'd probably put some arnica cream or tiger balm on it if I'm sure it is a swelling from the inside (muscle/tendon/whatever related) and not an insect bite and there's no broken skin... if there is, try one of the insect bite creams.

    Hi Apples+O,

Don't be discouraged by this incident. I've been going barefoot for like 18 years and never had such a swelling problem. My feet are tough and yours will probably keep getting tougher too. I think maybe the top of your foot got sunburned? Is that possible? My brother once had the tops of his feet get sunburnt and he also had swelling and could barely walk around. If not, then maybe you are just having an allergic skin reaction to some stinging nettle or poison oak, or maybe a bee sting or something like that. Did you go trampling through creekside vegetation? Whatever it is, it's probably nothing serious- just a little communication with mother nature that we all get to experience if we're lucky ;)

    Thanks,
but to anyone who commented about possible bug bites or poisoning its not that kidn of pain, its like bone pain. I dont know how to explain it...it hurts inside of my foot, like I cant even move my toes!

Drink milk. It's good for your bones.

    I dunno whatta tell ya.
I have had fellings like that before on a few parts of my body. After a day or so, it felt all better.

The only think I can really blame is weather changes. How has your climate been lately?

A&O I'm sorry to hear of your pain. When swelling is a problem it's a good idea to elevate the foot. If it is from an alergic reaction a benadryl may help. Also an ice pack will provide relief for the pain and reduce the swelling. Take it easy and your body will take care of it self. If you're still having problems after a few days you may choose to visit a doctor. It's good to hear you are an avid barefooter and I hope your injury won't change your enthusiasim. Archie

Might have it checked out since there are a few very small bones in the foot that can break pretty easy if you just step wrong.

hehe, Don't worry about this changing my barefooted-lifestyle :)
I tried avoiding doing too much walking [what so ever] around on it though, but yesterday I said fuck it, and walked around outside... walking on my gravel driveway was a bit painful for my foot, but I braved it :)

I suspect it may be an issue with the tendon that runs from about your big toe up...I forgot to mention it hurts mainly on the TOP of my foot, and its more on the left side [of my right foot] stemming from my big toe up to my ankle. I'm still in pain, but lately I'm just sort of blowing it off....There's not much Dr's can do about broken foot bones and the like anyway!

Thanks for your ideas everyone <3

It sounds almost exactly like what I had a while ago. I strongly suggest some painkillers and some rest.

Do you happen to have hammertoes, or other problems like that? It's been known for those problems to have no side effects for a very long time, then suddenly act up and hurt very badly.
