problem

    hey all. My computer is not recognizing the dvd drive. I put a dvd in the hard drive and I go to my computer and click dvd drive and then just nothing i have a blank screen. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

    the dvd drive does show up under my computer?

    have you tried more than one dvd?

    what OS are you running?

    Ahem. Do you have a DVD player program installed?
    Like maybe... PowerDVD? Or Nero media player?
    You DO need a decoder of some kind.

    You can get a 6 month Trial version of "Dr. DivX".

    that's true, but I think she said nothing shows up at all under 'my computer'

    the name of the dvd should atleast show up

    i think VLC media player will play dvds just fine

    need more input::)
    what type of OS do you use, are your flat cables properly connected to the dvd and motherboardboard it could be the cause of various things.

    I have tried more than one dvd. I do have a dvd program installed in my computer. I am not too sure what an OS is and if my flat cables are connected. Thanx

    OS is your operating system ie..Windows XP or Windows 98

    could you elaborate a bit more on that? does the dvd drive change to the name of the movie? will the dvd drive read a regular cd?

    what do you mean "blank screen"?

    Trotsky, I think she means like an empty directory on that device.
    I get that now & then too. I leave the CD in the drive, and do a restart. It reads just fine after that, as long as the CD isn't bad. VLC isn't bad at all1 Like you posted once, it plays the files WHILE you download them.

    ahh..now I got ya.

    that happensto me sometimes too, i get a blank screen or explorer just crashes.

    if you don't know what OS you're on, try opening your start menu, it should say along the left hand side.

    thanx everyone i just restarted my computer and the problem went away

    sometimes i have to boot up windoiz again sometimes during games and stuff just forgot that one :H
