YES-I WAS THERE!-60s WAS VERY BLURRY!

So-how is everybody doin-?My name is Rob-I am 56 this month and grew up in the bay area-graduated in 67!-perfect!-The Haight-Ashbury was; by then; already flooded with people-more then the free food and clothes and crash pads could handle-but; hey-no problem-no fights-and still lots of good energy and music in the panhandle-I was there to watch Janis many times -fantastic women-pure ball of hot Texas fire on stage-and a great attitude-I just found this site about an hour ago-looks like fun-I would love to hear from any folks still around from the nights at the Avalon or any ex-Wheeler Ranch people--thats a whole nother story-!-so -people are asking-what is/was a hippie-that's easy-it ain't the drugs-(we did alot!) or the music(real good!) or sleepin with lots of strangers-it was all that and more! lol-it was about attitude-having a good one-and learning to get along and respect the people around you--not so much push and shove or me first -but us as a group-can make things work--alone sucks-group thinking is very powerful-just as long as the leader of the group is not named Charlie!--The Haight Ashbury and all of San Francisco in the mid 60s; was safe to stroll around blown out on Owsley--or dance in the street--the original Fillmore was a small building in a bad part of town-but so what-Bill Graham brought in the best bands in the world for 3 bucks a night--what a deal-And Chet Helms over at the Avalon did the same thing-We were very fortunate to have been there at that time when the world really was a special; place and San Francisco was magic-it really was-sadly-it all ended; but that really was to be expected-the media hype and drug deaths got out of hand. Well-I live in vancouver Wa. now and have memories to keep me smiling-lots of fun fer sure-Hey Chet! thanks-You and The Dog are /were the best-Thanks Chet!--Rob-Vancouver Wa.-
