There are some cult movies seem to have an aura of cool around them. It seems to be the cool thing to like certain movies and if you didnt like it, well then you just don't get it do you? So I'm asking what cult classic type movie did you just not like. Maybe all your alternative funky friends raved about it and how wonderful/inspiring/deep/life-changing it was, but if your going to be down-right honest, you just thought it was shit! Personally, I think Dazed and Confused is one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. I pretended to like it when I was younger just because it was the cool thing to do, but I'm 23 years old now and I am going to stand up and say I hated it.
The movies I hate that everyone else likes include "the Matrix" absolutely despised it. I generally like most "cult" films with the exception of Rocky Horror picture Show, which i can't stand. I liked Dazed and Confused for what it was, I think it shows the different cliques and typical high school events pretty well..and I like the director....i don't consider it a crappy stoner movie like some of the others.
wow, i didnt like 'the matrix' or 'rocky horror' either... and i hate 'napoleon dynamite'... so stupid...
I liked Napoleon Dynamite, but my Spanish significant other absolutely hated it...i can see why, but i thought it was unique and amusing, she thought it was depressing....I didn't grow up in an area that was remote like that or anything, but again it remided me of certain archetypes that exist in most high schools.
I admit being a little dissappointed with "Sideways," I liked it and was entertained, but everyone had me thinking it was revolutionary or something. Did anyone see I <3 Huckabees? I really liked that one and no one seems to discuss it much.
i saw that and thought it was brilliant....i *heart* huckabees that is. i really liked the whole existential detective idea...
quote: ....i *heart* huckabees that is. i really liked the whole existential detective idea... Me too! Especially since they were played by Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman
I hate those boring mind films like I heart huckabees. And Rocky Horror is the shit man, how can you not like that? Obviously you've never been to an audience participation at a movie theatre of it. Once you see one of those, i gurantee you'll like it
everyone used to tell me american pie was amazing, saying 'man you haven't lived until you've seen this film!' i was like....its just fucking film....tho i thought the film was ok, but i didn't think it was like WOW like some people thought
I didn't like the Matrix either....partly because I just couldn't keep interested enough to follow the storyline.
I thought the Matrix would have been a great film if people had stopped trying to go on about how deep it was. What rubbish, it took an idea from Plato, simplified it and turned it into a very entertaining film. The mistake was making a big meal out of it and turning it into a very long drawn out trilogy. The other film that has a massive cult following, the reason for which I really do not get, is Blade Runner.
but does the general populus recognize plato's works? do they have any idea what he taught and "knew" or do they need a movie to oversimplify and over Hollywood it for them to have interest?
Hates too strong a word, but I certainly wouln't want to waste another minute of my life re-watching any of the following cultish movies Reservoir Dogs Twin Town Barton Fink Zabriskie Point Last Tango in Paris Silence of the Lambs The Blairwitch Project Any Friday 13th Movie Baz Luhrmanns Romeo + Juliet or Fight Club. I don't have any great desire to watch The Matrix, and there are plenty of others that I wouldn't be bothered if I never saw again - but then movie-making is an art-form and is thus subjective, so they aren't going to have Universal appeal -even the Star Wars films, (shock, horror) don't figure in everyones top ten. And yes, I am one of the sad muppets who likes Blade Runner, although I think even a half way decent amateur presentation of the Rocky Horror Show is better than the film. Oh well, now of to unwind with a DVD before bed, what shall it be, Strictly Ballroom, Witness, The Princess Bride or The Commitments.
only reason to watch logans run is that you need to see it to really get why star wars is so great (unless you were there the first time, then you never need to see it)
