Basically every kid in my high school has a grateful dead or some other hippie band t-shirt. Not that this is bad, but they have no idea who the band is or what songs they sing and play. So i guess a new fashion in my area is being a hippie or trying to be which is sad but good in a way. Does anyone agree with me or im i just baked out of my mind?

By your age.. im gonna assume that its just kids trying to find out who they are.. dont worry in a year or two they will figure out who they really are... And that mey be hippie or what ever label you want to put on it.. In the mean time try to make them listen to the music.. enlighten them

I think it's gay but i do agree that it's just a part of discovering yourself. When i worked at West 49, this girl came in and bought the last Jimmy Hendrix shirt, and i was like "damn you, i wanted to buy this" and she was like "AHAhAHahHAhah OMG LiKE I DonT EveN KNoW WhEw ThaT IZZzz, I jUSt LIkE THE SHirt, Is aLL..... AhahHAHAhah" i wanted to punch her head in.

At stores here they sell alot of shit that's like, man why is this in THIS store. It's like selling pot shirts at the gap or something. And people buy them just for a trend. It drives me insane.

I have seen Bob Marley, Hendrix and Pink Floyd shirts at both Target and JcPenney! They are so readily available that I can't really blame the kids who wear them. They are cool looking, and that's all that really matters when most 14 (and some ahem 18 year olds) are buying a shirt.

last night, I went on a sock-and underwear run to our French designer "Tar-zhey" with the kid. his socks were shredded.
We walk past a display with AC-DC, Pink Floyd, Hendrix (kinda cool--flocked and stuff....)
and Beatles. I tried to talk him ino Beatles over AC/DC, so I asked him to name three songs. He locked up and sputtered TNT...OK, he's listening to a good era. He has the shirt...and a PF shirt, but I know he knows that, he has the disc.

No bother to me really. I remember alot of kids being that way. I would approach one wearing a Dead shirt and ask what their favorite song was..and they had no idea. One explained though that he just loved the artwork so that was cool with me. I don't mind either way. It's that way with so many things. 90% of the people running around in Harley Davidson shirts don't ride and that's just one of many examples.

I don't mind it when I see obvious "fakers" wearing a Marley shirt or whatever just for fashion. I mean, at least I don't see Britney Spears shirts everywhere!!!

Even if they can't even name ONE song, they are still spreading the word. Who knows? Maybe they go and buy a record cuz they love their shirt so much.

lol a couple weeks ago i saw a VW Camper Van on ebay with a Harley sticker on the back window. AND My sister bought her dog a Harley dog collar. My sister has never even been on a motor skooter, let alone a harley. Why buy this for her dog? So the dog can pretend to be a harley and my sis can rider her around the room? My sister is such a shit tool.

ohh, fake hippies. it's one of those really uncool things about popular culture, the way that an "image" becomes a fad and can totally make the authentic hippies feel invalidated and encroached upon. but i guess i think we should just do our thing. that's part of what we're about, right? living as though the world is the way it should be? so what say we look past the image and get to know the people, eh?

    ohh, and this:

maybe let's not use words like "gay" as derogatory. it's not exactly respectful or life-affirming.

    peacies.
