i was just wondering - what are the chances of a condom breaking? I'm not talking about hardcore sex here....just "the average deed" which ones are the best?

It's not impossible but it hardly ever happens. I've never had it happen myself, and I don't know anyone who's had it happen. It's a rare thing.

It really depends.. used correctly it shouldn't happen often.. however there are studies that have shown that the breakage rate can be as high as 20% in couples who have shown that they understand how to use a condom safely.

personally speaking I've had 3/4 such experiences over the last 15 years of use.

i had a condom break once, before my gf was on birth control. she got pregnant too. so i advise u to get ur gf or fuck buddy to go on birth control. if im not mistaken the pills are free if the girl doesnt have a job. but it only broke once out of the uncountable times weve done it so do worry about it if ur not gonna have hardcore freaky sex

Condoms are helpful to prevent the transmission of STD's, as you all know. But you should never rely on them for birth control. Not only can they burst, they can slip off during withdrawl when you start to soften.

The Birth Control pill is much more reliable. If not the pill, there are other forms of reliable contraception.

If you are in a monogomous relationship and STD free, toss the condoms and just use a reliable form of contraception.

If you put it on right & have sufficient lubrication (water-based only, no vaseline or anything like that), the risk is pretty low. Oil based lubes will break down the integrity of the latex, tho they are OK if you have a polyurethane condom (like Trojan Ultra, which is only worth the money if you are even slightly allergic to latex). Plenty of the right kind of lube is important -- even women who normally produce more than enuf on their own need it on occasion, so don't feel self-conscious about it.

As for slippage, yes, they will occasionally slide off during withdrawl. There is an easy solution to that, tho... Make him put his hand around his dick, holding the condom onto himself, as he pulls out. If you're on top, you hold it onto his dick as you dismount.

Condoms suck, but they are the best protection available against diseases & are highly effective against pregnacy IF used properly EVERY TIME. The main reason the statistics do not show them as effective as the pill for contraception is that damn near every steady couple will at one time or another get lazy or drunk or whatever. All it takes is one time of saying "oh, well, I'm on my period, I guess you can go without just this once..."

You are mistaken, at least that has been the case everywhere I've been. Planned Parenthood charged on a sliding scale, so it was $10-15 a month. Same with the Department of Health clinic that I went to a few years back. I've never been able to afford health insurance, so I don't know if they're covered under that... But, if she has insurance, will she be able to qualify for the lowest rate on the sliding scale?

This has happened to my boyfriend and a couple times in our two years weve been sexually active together. I wasnt on birth control! But there is the Morning after pill which you can get for free from planned parenthood. There are certain programs at planned parenthood you can join like the take charge program. Birth control is free for me. Other things are on a sliding scale. The morning after pill should not be used as a form of birth control! But when accidents happen it is better then having a child. Make every child a wanted child! :)

It's never happened to us before, but I know of other people who have had it happen to them. If I were you, I'd always use a condom AND some spermicide, just in case. Most condoms come with spermicide already on them, but it never hurts to add a little more, in case it ever does break.

I thought myself that guys who'd break condoms were certainly doing something very wrong... until a few months ago when I met my current gf and broke 3 condoms in the same weekend... two in the same night!!! ...fortunately my gf is also on the pill!

Maybe it's because I'm a little wide and she's a little thight. Even if she was wet and all, in the end just before climax, I'd get a little harder, pump through the rubber and make myself a nice turtleneck! ...the cockring effect was interesting though!

Since then, I always make sure my girl is EXTRA wet before I climb in ;) ...and then again, I still broke another one.

If it wasn't for the pill, I'd have had so many sleepless nigths

Now that's not necessarilly true. I've been using them as my main form of birth control for 12 years now. No breaks, and no children because of them.

well, just because they haven't broken on you doesn't mean it doesn't happen. it's happened to me and i must say it is a scary experience. just be careful and don't get the thin ones because they break easier i guess.
