I just watched "GRASS" the documentary on the criminalization of marijuana in America. It was great! If you haven't seen it--get it! If you have, I'd love to hear some comments. The sad thing is that it was close to being at least decriminalized twice and failed both times--once under Nixon (when he trashed his own Committee's research report and declared "War on Drugs") and secondly, under Carter (until one of his aides got nailed for cocaine use and Congress vetoed his bill). Maybe, the third time will be a charm, but WHEN WILL IT BE?
i got it a while back and watched it with the rents. they thought it was dumb and i was laughing during the whole thing. lol.
I love the message. I love the facts and the information. But I hate the way it was directed. I can see how ElChivato's parents just laughed and dismissed the idea. It loooks to me like a college film class documentary. And obviously from a stoner's point of view. Like I said, I think this movie's information is one of the best of our times. But it needs to appeal to the people who don't know this information.
I wonder if when we have a President born after Vietnam, if it would be instituted. I think that we need a President that is the direct opposite of these Conservative, "traditional" moral-pushing, war-mongering, non-scientific, religious ZEALOT politicians and the brainwashed masses who are uneducated of the history and effects of drugs and the drug war.
What I think we need is a politician with a real opinion. I hate they way every person who runs for any kind of office, just dances around any subject you throw at them. God forbid someone disagrees with them. Even in the presidential race, both candidates cannot debate without insulting the other's intelligence. It's sad. Why can't they say " I respect that you have that opinion, BUT..." and go on to tell the people how they really feel. That's the kind of person we need in charge to turn this country around. Someone who has beliefs and will stick to them, not hide a piece here ot there in fear someone will not like what they have to say. The person needs to be strong. But it will never happen. The gov't would never allow someone who has an opinion in any sort of office. They couldn't stand the thought of someone convincing the people to make them stop doing things that are profitable to the rich, and doing things that benefit those who need help. It always comes down to cold hard cash. ok that's my political rant for the day!
I love Ron Mann's films and Woody was perfect for the narrator I think. If you dig Mann's style check out "Go Further", another movie he did with Woody at voiceyourself.com 'Magic Weed: The story of Cannabis Sativa" is another good one that's more along the lines of traditional documentary, it goes all the way back to early China and explores both the industrial and recreational/spiritual aspects of the plant.
If you got a chance to see the 3rd party debates it was like that, real debates with real intelligence and not a bunch of media hype.
I did watch them but unfortunately it's reality that they aren't going to be elected. Not that I didn't put in my vote for the green party, but I know I'm going to be overshadowed. So I watched the media type debates to see what idiotic statements our future president was going to make.
I recomend that everyone watch this movie. It brings out the propoganda and lies that the government used to undermine the American people.
GRASS is a great movie....i love the bills they keep adding up after each segment, really hits home how much we waste on fighting herb.........
