I live in such a small area where they may have one open mic a summer, and usually it's for poetry. I do write poetry, and I do like to read it in front of people, but that's not all I like to do. I do music and comedy and short stories, as well. And I'd really like to perform for the rest of my life. I love being on stage, doing my thang. I don't have to be famous, I just have to be able to perform. But I rarely can, and it really makes me feel trapped. I'm getting fed up. I wish I had the money to go move somewhere where they have some sort of art scene. I'm this close to going to New York City and sleeping in a cardboard box on 42nd street. There's nothing here, and it's driving me nuts.
I can't say that I've experienced this because I'm not a stage performer, never have been. But,I was thinking...maybe you could mention doing other types of performances,to the person that owns the venue? Who knows..other people may be interested and you could start something up. Atleast until you do move to somewhere else.
Hey, what's up, yeah i had a coffeehouse at my high school, in which i read poetry and it went very well, I read about 3 poems, but there was also a lot of music there, and many other different forms of art, I love the stage also, its like a drug being in the middle of everyone sharing your deep side, and it feels so good to hear the applause when you know the words danced inside them and they felt something, you can hear that they got it when you hear the applause. It really lifts you up, um im not certain what to say to answer your question, but you got a house right, why not just have an open mike in your backyard? Good Luck, Peace, and happy performing!!
I was thinking about that, actually. Not in my backyard, exactly, but there's a small park 5 minutes from my house. I'd just need to get permission to use it for a day. And help from my parents. And a lot of other people.
same here.. you could prolly play at local bars here, but you gotta know the owner, i 'spect. and play country music... ive only got one original country song
Hey, we'd be neighbors. My box is on 41st & Lexington. But I hear there's an opening on Park Ave. Solly got hauled off by the cops again. Maybe you could just take occasional trips to the city to get your gig fix?
