I'm new here. I see all kinds of posts asking about prices of weed. where to get it, etc. Unless you're severly disabled, if you have no ganja, only blame yourself. If you live in the "country", possible grow sites are limitless. If you live in the city and can't grow inside, you still have tons of options. You could grow it in a backyard, disguising it as a hedge (by topping it) and attaching plastic flowers & berries. Or at a park. I once cruised the neighborhood until I spotted a house all overgrown with weeds. Meaning 1 of 2 things--substance abusers or elderly people. I went by enough times until I saw the residents--an elderly couple. So I knocked on the door once, told them I was a gardener and offered to do gardening work very low-cost so I could possibly get some work in their area. They accepted and for a laughably small amt. of $, I worked like a dog for a few days, mowing, weeding, digging, re-seeding, trimming, hacking away, planting flowers, etc. I offered to do their backyard (same poor condition as the front) at no extra cost. And worked in their backyard for days, then tended to both about once a week. And in the very back, between the back wall in amongst lots of other plants, planted 10 pot plants. I planted some vines that grew up the pot plants, effectively disguising it. They remarked once about the pretty plants with the pretty yellow flowers. I figured that, during the late spring, summer & early fall I put in approx. 40 hours of labor. And harvested 5 lbs. of fat sticky buds, 3 of which I sold and made the equiv. of $7,500.00. 7.5 grand and 2 pounds of bud--not made for 40 hours work, huh? And then there were my mountain grows. I lived in one of the largest metropolitan area's in the U.S. Yet within an hour's drive and hour's hike, I could be out in the middle of nowhere in the Nat'l Forest. Over several decades I grew prob. 100 pounds of pot total, always planting in at least 3 locations in case one or 2 got busted/ripped (depressingly often). Growing in the woods is tough, since you have to find a suitable, remote site you can get to without leaving a path. And you have to prep the site, digging holes and hauling out bags of potting soil, and watering every 3 days. The toughest part were the hot, hot days of summer. While my friends were at the beach, chillin, I'd be out pounding the hot dusty trail. Keeping my eyes on the prize kept me going. I've tried to encourage people to do the same. But 99% always have an excuse, mainly "too much hassle". Meanwhile spending hundreds of $ per month on what they could grow for pennies on the dollar. I once did some figuring, and determined that I made, off my labor, approx. $100.00 or more per hour. So I thought of it as a part-time, wonderfully lucrative part-time job, strolling through the woods and occasionally bringing my fishing gear and enjoying fresh-caught trout cooked over a campfire next to a stream. P.S. Growing and selling are 2 way different things. Tip #1--NEVER let anyone you sell to know YOU grew it yourself. Your friends will want free pot ("C'mon dude be cool--it didn't cost you nothing"), others are not adverse to following you the next year to find your garden. Tip #2--Unless you're ready to swim with the big fishes, NEVER sell to anyone you don't know. Case in point: 1 year I was VERY sucessful. I had about 10 pounds more than I could smoke/sell to friends, my former "broker" had moved, and I got paranoid about having that much pot laying around, so I talked to this other guy. "I want to get rid of this a.s.a.p." I told him "So ask a grand a pound (stuff that usually sold for 3 x that much) for it." "I'll sell it for you" he said, "but not for a dime less than the going price. "There are dealers who grow pot for a living. If I sell this for a grand a pound, these people will look upon this as me taking money from their pockets. They could show up some night and take a baseball bat to my knee's." And of course there's also the chance you could get busted. So don't moan and bitch about having no weed or the high prices dealers charge. Grow your own. It's not that hard and certainly worth the effort.
Right on, man! I could disagree with some of your advcie, but we all come from different walks of life, and your ultimate message is what counts.
I thought of growing in this place by the woods near my house by these elderly people's house, but too many people go down there to smoke and they'd take the plants and steal bud. I used to live on a farm and I wish I still did. I live right off of main street here, so it generally sucks... there really isn't a place here because there's so many damn hunt clubs that are always around in the woods. I live in the country, yet I don't... it's growing up. I'm sure before 1995 or so, you could get away with it easy here.
Why should I be "ashmaded"? If the plants would have been noticed, I'm sure the couple who got hundreds of $ worth of gardening basically free would have said the only person that went out there was "that nice young man who does our gardening". And I was fully prepared to take the heat if it came to that.
Ok, lets say your an edlerly person and you get this nice kid to do some work in your yard and your super happy and appreciate it a lot. Then you find yourself being arrested....and find out it was that nice kid that did it or you didnt know how they got there. Most likely they wouldnt know how they got there and people would think thats pure bullshit. I just think its morally wrong.
Back in the late 60's, little old ladies were discovered with pot growing in their back yards, like my granma. It wasn't because they planted them there per se, and I doubt if any were arrested. Canary food includes hemp seeds. People would empty their cages in their back yard. Stray seeds, fertilizer (bird shit) and dirt--nature did the rest. The bird food companies tried taking the hemp seeds out but the canaries stopped singing. So nowadays they sterilize the seeds first. Anyway- 2 elderly people using canes and walkers, and a long-haired hippy gardener--who do you think the cops would have thought grew that weed? Even if they would have suspected the old folks, I would have stepped up and taken the rap. I don't let other people do my time. Anyway, my point was that you can grow pot anywhere. It's a very hardy plant. I've grown pot in brush alongside roads, inc. freeways. In fact, except for the smog factor, alongside freeways is an ideal spot. The area had good soil and drainage, irrigation and lots of sun. Accessed from parallel surface streets, it's a snap. I've also grown in public parks, and vacant lots. Add: Years later, I grew in a neighbor's back yard. She was well aware of what I was growing back there, along with corn, onions, garlic, tomatos, beans, gourds, melons. etc. She NEVER went into her back yard and they were in a spot where they couldn't be seen from the house. The deal was that if the grow got busted, I would absolve her of any involvement/knowledge. It came to pass that another neighbor turned it in. She also mentioned to the cops that I was the one who was doing the gardening. The cops questioned the person who's back yard I was growing in, she said she didn't know anything about any pot. As per our agreement, she mentioned that I was the one who was doing the gardening, she let me use her backyard in exchange for some of the veggie's. When the cops questioned me, I freely admitted (as per our agreement) that it was indeed my grow, confessed on tape. Luckily, the arresting officer was pro-pot, and everytime my case came up for trial, he went on vacation. After 3 scheduled court appearences, with the arresting cop always gone, the charges were dropped. Well, not dropped exactly. On the last (90th) day--I didn't waive time--with the cop never showing up, I was walking out of the courtroom with a happy smile. The d.a. came over with a "deal". "No deals sweetheart" I told her "it's over, see ya." "I could always re-file" she said. "No judge would allow you to re-file, after the arresting officer went on vacation everytime the case came up and will probably continue to do so" I said. "Here's the deal" she said "Plead no contest to simple possession and the judge will sentence you to 6 months summary probation and a $50.00 fine. If you aren't caught growing pot in the next 6 months, the conviction AND the arrest for cultivation will be wiped off your record." Well, it was worth $50.00 to me to have the arrest expunged, so I took the deal. The ranger always takes his own medicine. I don't do a crime unless I'm willing to do the time.
I would have to agree with mynameisjake. It's morally questionable (but only because of the legal complications that could ensue), and it's the sort of thing prohibitionists use to discredit cannabis users. Afterall, one of their main arguments is that medicinal marijuana users are just being used as pawns to push an agenda (they believe pothead "good deeds" are hiding manipulative intentions). It's good of you to accept responsibility when it comes down to it, but it still just feels off for me... Anyway, happy smoking.
I highly doubt that the elderly couple would have been arrested. Plenty of people over the years have had pot discovered on their property. There are countless explanations for why this could happen, but an elderly couple growing it for personal consumption is not a likely answser....
Yeah, you're both right. Disregard that last post. I suppose it's just the violation of trust that troubles me, which isn't an issue in rangerdanger's second story. Peace and bowls.
